Open Letter to Blizzard: Respect Your Paying Players
I’ve paid a sub and bought every expansion for 15+ years. For me it’s over after eighteen years. It’s over.
And before you reply “why don’t you go play TBC Classic then”: I shouldn’t have to play 18-year-old content to have fun. New expansions should be better than the old ones. That’s your job.
Top players still stream TBC Classic, still raid Sunwell, still do Arena on Classic servers. Have you ever asked yourself why? People keep playing old expansions because you broke the new ones.
1. You killed PvP.
TBC/WotLK had class identity. Each class had strengths AND weaknesses. Now everyone has infinite mobility, 4 defensives, and 4-button rotations. Arena is a PvE CD check. No outplay, no kite, no counterplay. Holinka left in 2022 but his “accessible = pruned” design is still here.
2. You waste our time with bloated expansions.
Every expansion adds more systems, more currencies, more mandatory grinds. I log in asking “what must I farm today” not “who do I want to play with”. Expansions should expand the world, not my chore list. This isn’t an MMO. It’s a second job.
3. You destroyed the social game.
LFG, LFR, sharding, cross-realm. I did M+ with 4 silent strangers and forgot them instantly. In Vanilla I knew my whole server. Mike Morhaime said WoW became less social. You made it happen.
4. You ignore feedback. You never learn from your mistakes.
WoD beta: “Garrisons isolate players.” Legion: “Pruning kills classes.” Shadowlands: “Forced Torghast sucks.” You shipped it anyway. Then you act shocked when we unsub. 18 years of the same cycle.
I pay $14.99/month. I’m not a free beta tester or an engagement metric. I’m a customer.
If Midnight is the “final saga”, act like it. Bring back class identity and real weaknesses. Remove infinite mobility from PvP. Stop adding 3 systems per expansion. Make WoW a world again, not an instance lobby.
Otherwise keep your tokens and $25 mounts. Me and thousands like me already unsubbed.
