so, how did it end for you guys?
The pro0eblm is that this game does not drop loot. I go almost trought all Nigtmare with a sword found in normal, I think around Act 5 NM I found something better. This is ridicoulous.
For Duriel, get Antidote potions with you, it will boost your poison resistance a lot. Also for mobs before Duriel might help. Kite them a lot, brign them back from the gorup a kill them one by one if possible until reach Duriel entry. You can try to take mercenary from Act 3 Normal with you, that merc stays away and not die a lot, it will also freeze mobs.
Have you heard something about runewords?
Antidote for Duriel?! Have I missed something extremely important in this game?
Guess you meant Andariel. For Duriel Thawing potions might help though. As far as I now they also higher frost resistances.
Both Antidote potions and Thawing for Duriel helm me there. Depends on what mobs encounter before Duriel, I go very nasty poisoning mobs there.
Have you heard that runes does not drop in this games also? Ask the post creator what runes he has available.
Do you use any kind of runewords yet ?
How high are your resistance ?
Anti freeze potions may help as well.
How high is your hit rating ? Mayybe crafting some equipment would help too.
There is a reciep for gloves with crushing blow. really usefull at all.
Or go for more dmg reduce items in the crafting section that will keep you more alive.
Items with cant be freeze or half freeze duration will be also pretty good.
Maybe you need to equip your merc better too. What kind of merc do you use ?
Hope this helps:
For Duriel you need cold resistance as much as you can.I play as melee assassin.
Either assemble items, or use abilities, or use a lot of thawing potions. Remember that thawing potions apart from unfreezing you also grant a big bonus to cold resistance, and each ption adds 10 seconds. So if you drink 6 before the fight, you got 1 minute of boosted cold resistance. What i did once from what i remember is drink 6-8 thawing ptions, teleport to fight, and after i felt around 60 seconds have passed i would open the teleport back to town and repeat, he doesnt heal.

Also imho at higher difficulty , the game gets a bit more complex. You cant just advance and level up and hope to level up enough to steamroll. Resistance to elements become critical, and you might need to adjust gear depending on what mobs are most common and deadly in the area. I know I do and it helps a lot. You must observe if for example the enemy is throwing lightinings at you, and then boost your lighting resistance. If you arent sure what dmg the mobs do, remember its name and google.
Or you can add him via bnet account and join him via the option to join a friend, realm doesn’t matter then, it’s often used for trades.

There are vendors with decent stuff, no reason to hold on to garbage gear.
I’ve never played a melee char in D2 but I’ve heard they are very weak compared to ranged / caster, and you will struggle hard unless you have a VERY good weapon. Sorry.
sadly this is true. And finding a good melee weapon is almost impossbile until late Hell.
I see nothing about your build or equipment, and even if you did, I probably wouldn’t remember enough details about your class from back in the day, but nevertheless:
- If you research your own talent builds, that’s a good thing. But information on how things actually work are limited, so expect to level up many toons to try out various builds. Might be simpler to do this offline, so you can backup savegame of toon with respecs active so you can test out lots of stuff.
- If you use builds promoted online, realize a quite a few, especially the targeted high end builds, require a lot of rare gear a lot of casual players will never see.
- If you don’t have a good build, nightmare may become very hard, and at some point it will be close to impossible to continue.
- If your build is item dependent, don’t expect to use it before you’ve played a lot with other toons with other builds to farm the equipment you need first.
- And as loot drop is random, maybe farm first and see what interesting loot you get, and then pick a class/build fitting what you’ve found.
If you plan to play one toon from start to end without issues and with the gear you find, you need to use a good build with no item requirements. There aren’t too many of those, especially not that can handle hell act 5 solo without major hassle…
Oh… And to Duriel in particular. He can be a bastard… He has the equivalence of a holy freeze paladin aura, slowing you down. Frost resistance (that can be gotten from thawing potions) helps mitigate the damage from the aura, but you will still be slowed down. Maybe a “cannot be frozen” item can help here too.
And you’re talking as you’re fighting him going through all the mobs in front first… Town portals are your friend. You can run back to resurrect your mercenary, restock potions and go back in. Mobs don’t heal much, so you can get most mobs down in time, but gets tedious if you’re low in power.
Thank you all guys, for all the info. I think I’ll create a game on European server, named CONAN, writing about killing the mobs and Duriel, on nightmare difficulty, with no password, and wait for some high level player to help me. Thanks again.
Are you playing on PC btw? I can help but I’m currently stuck in queue
Yes, and I’m stuck in queue too 58 now.
And have the struggles ended? Do inform! It’s been quite a story so far! lol
it seems that guys have been involved in unwanted pvp activity and have left this toxic forum for good, rip
just tried to join to game but there is a password XD
Hope you killed him already
