I have closed every other program on my computer. But still every time I complete the first act, killing the black king, it prompts me to upgrade. When I clock on upgrade now and error message comes up. There was an error (code 300016) and I cannot process any further in the game. The computer is a new gaming computer, there are no connection errors or improper drivers. Very frustrating.

Killing the Black King is as far as you can go in the story without buying the game… which is why you are prompted to upgrade. Unfortunately, when you click on upgrade now… the game bugs out. It’s been like that for a long time, it has been reported on numerous occasions… perhaps Blizzard doesn’t know how to fix it.
The workaround is to buy the game directly from the Blizzard Shop :
Diablo III | Battle.net (Europe)
Diablo III | Battle.net (Americas)
(not sure where you are located… your Battle Tag indicates you’re in Americas, but this forum is for Europe)
