CPU temperature issue

having the same issue. ryzen 7800X3D, noctua NH-D15, average temp 45-55°C, but every 30-60 seconds after some gameplay, the fans ramp up FULLSPEED and the temp reaches up to 81 degrees. meanwhile the cpu usage does not change. cant be healthy for cpu i guess. newest agesa 1.0.0.7b non beta bios, newest chipset drivers, i mean its this game that makes the cpu go crazy, with a max power consumption of 40watts.

im playing at 1080p capped at 90 fps.

will limit cpu with powerplan just for D4 now, first wanted to limit the cpu to 65w eco mode but that wont help, because it just draws 40watts maximum anyway while playing d4.

edit: friend has same CPU 7800X3D and he has max temp of 70 degrees with a worse cpu fan. maybe i should install an older chipset driver? did anyone try? ^^ he got his old one from mainboard manufacturer, whereas i used the newest AMD chipset drivers

You are the man. I have a 5800X3D as well and have encountered the same issue.

But you don’t need to set the power plan minimum to anything above 1% and you can set the maximum to 99%. That’s all you need. My CPU temp according to hwinfo would spike to 95C and now it won’t go over 57.6C – you are a hero.

Changed the power plan on my 5800X box since that is used for D4 as well. Temperature in the room became more tolerable thanks to you. I would literally strip down to my underwear to play D4.

Nice that you realized that game is not at fault, but self-overclocking CPU.

I logged in 2 nights ago after a few weeks away. i was showing the game to a friend who was asking about it.

I run <12 month old system RTX3080 with I7 13700K - GPU always ran around 70-80 in D4, however CPU would always be below 70. I noticed spiking CPU temps above 80 randomly, could be in town, or in ad dense area, seemed completely random as discussed in this OP.

Edit; not clocked at all - factory settings

This is new for me and i’m wondering if its to do with game optimisation changes in a recent patch?

Read posts above. Besides:

Your CPU “factory settings” allow this monster to devour from 125 up to 253 Watts of power. Don’t be surprised getting 95 C on this CPU, like reviewers on Techradar did. Just read up what hardware you got yourself before you ask:

Answer is no. It has nothing to do with the game.
