Seriously, no way to turn off other players?

Same here. Had a blast with the game in terms of world design, look and feel and story. Until I started seeing other random players in town and outside after the tutorial.

To me having random players run around adds absolutely nothing and only detracts. To be fair, you don’t seem to be seeing that many players but it’s still a forced mechanic I don’t care about. At best they attack something I can handle on my own, at worst they clear mobs or events so I have to wait around for a respawn.

Make it similar to Guild Wars 1 (PoE?). See other players in town, allowing you to party up with them and make everything outside of towns instanced to your party. Simple fix.

OR make an option akin to “Public Open World Play” that you can opt out of.

I agree with previous posters. I want to play Diablo, which to me is solo and coop with my friends. If I want to play an MMO I’ll go play an MMO.

the problem is if you going to turn player off but then how you are going to see me to come pvp you? that wont work

Yeah, I’m feeling you here. Went through the newbie zone and really loved the immersion and the feel. Hit the part where the world opened up and the whole feel changed. DeathDr69 and kin running around town doesn’t really add anything. Having people randomly join into a fight that I’m enjoying the challenge of doesn’t add anything.

I play with my wife, and likely, that’s the only real grouping I’ll be doing except for the rare occasion other people I know are on at the same time as I am and we’re all feeling social. I’d like the option for the two of us to be all we see unless we’re in a pvp zone or world boss/event, or if you must, towns.

If the entire game was like the opening zone, I’d be on my way to pre-order. As it stands, I’m on the fence, entirely because of the mmo aspect.

I feel this is a satire post.

A lot of people are asking about it and weirdly, a lot of people act like this request is a personal attack upon their person. Even though the entire series has always been private or co-op and no one’s been forced, in the past, to do anything other than enjoy the game as it is.

I don’t understand it myself. I can only come to the conclusion people are dragging their social awkwardness online with them and even the thought of other players on the screen gives them the fear.

That’s really nothing to do with it. A lot of people grew up with the Diablo games as co-op or single player and it’s extremely jarring to have random xxSlayerGodxx69 pop into their field of view. Not wanting people around has very little to do with anxiety for many and for others, that’s a valid perspective. I simply don’t want to be in an MMO; playing D2(R) and D3 was always a solo or small group of friends just vibing and murdering monsters. That’s always been the appeal!

To those saying it’s barely noticeable, I can only guess that you’ve been playing at quiet times when the vast majority have logged off and gone to bed or whatever! Once you complete the tutorial and arrive in Kyovashad it’s almost impossible not to see other players! Last weekend I went around Kyovashad and counted each player that I saw simply because I was curious as to just how many other players I could see at any single time, but I stopped counting once I got to 23 different players because I realised that this is much more like an MMO than we have been led to believe!

Sure, once you leave a town/hub area and go out into the world you don’t see quite as many other players, but you can certainly still see random players running around doing their own thing! A few times I would see an event show up on the map, head towards it only to get an “Event succeeded” message just as I arrived. That’s not fun at all, that’s certainly not exciting gameplay, it’s just annoying and frustrating, which, if it happens too often, makes me want to stop playing! At one point I even got a quest completed without actually doing anything for the quest other than getting close to the area the quest objective was in!

Now, we do know that Blizzard have dialled up a few things especially for the beta weekends, such as higher/earlier drop rates for legendaries, so I don’t know if the extent of seeing other players is also higher than it will be when the game goes live. I really hope that’s the case because, quite frankly, I just don’t want to see all these other players in MY Diablo experience! No, it’s got nothing to do with "social awkwardness " or anything else like that, I play plenty of MMO’s (including WoW) so I have zero issues or problems with seeing and/or interacting with other players who are complete strangers to me!

Diablo, Diablo II and Diablo III are all single-player games with co-op options. The only part of Diablo IV that is single-player is the initial “tutorial” and introduction. Once you arrive in Kyovashad that’s the end of any and all single-player experiences and from then on it’s all multi-player, bordering on MMO-lite! As others have said, Diablo IV seems to be more like a continuation of Diablo Immortal, minus all the insane, greedy monetization that Blizzard shoved into that abomination!

I’ve seen some players saying that D4 is nothing like an MMO! Really? You’ve got World Bosses that require multiple players to kill just like WoW and other MMO’s have. You’ve got Strongholds that require groups of players to conquer, just like Dungeons in MMO’s. You have to log into the game and a server, just like an MMO. You have to wait for respawns, just like an MMO. You see other players everywhere, just like an MMO. You see LOTS of other players with dumb, immature, idiotic names just like an MMO. Still want to try and claim that D4 isn’t an MMO? It seems to be a whole lot closer to being an MMO than it is to being a single-player game!

The real question is whether Blizzard will ever see any of these comments and, if they do, will they actually do anything about it? While they may indeed see these comments I very much doubt that they’ll do anything about it. I’m afraid it may simply be a case of either accept it for what it is or, if it’s too much for you then it’s likely better to ask for a refund sooner rather than later! :scream:

It’s not important. Complaining for the sake of complaining.

Are you playing on PC or Console? I didn’t encounter any people with such names so far. Every person I met ingame had actual roleplay names.

That’s not entirely true. If you go alone into dungeons or any instanced area you never see any other player except of your group.

Ah damn it! Completely forgot about those, all I can say in my defense is that I’ve slept several times since the Early Access Beta Weekend! :joy: Had problems getting in-game so far this weekend so I’ve yet to have my memories of the game fully refreshed! :disappointed:

I’m playing on PC and I’ve seen the usual selection of name “choices” that many players decide to use. Though, to be honest, I’ve kind of gotten used to such names from playing WoW and other MMO’s so these days I find it easier to simply ignore them. shrug

No one who is asking for single or chosen co-op is complaining. They’re literally asking for something that’s been part of the Diablo franchise for over 20 years.

Je suis d’accord, j’aime bien jouer à ce jeu en solo pour découvrir et éventuellement jouer en groupe mais si je le décide car je n’ai pas toujours envie de jouer en groupe.

I totally agree, i did a quest where I was supposed to slay some kinda boss, and then other players just come and take the kill from me, and i couldn’t even wait for it to respawn cause i wanted to do it myself, but no, it gave me the progress on the quest, and i didn’t have to even kill it myself. That ruined the feeling for me. It made me stop playing and go to the forums.

The basics of business, though I don’t expect someone who would make such an intellectually degenerative response to comprehend that.

I agree, meeting other players in town and perhaps in specific boss events outside of town is fine. (Just display the others when you are within the orange event area.)

It’s highly annoying when you need to kill something specific and you arrive in the area to discover someone else killed it first. Especially as it doesn’t respawn right away, so you are never certain how long you’ll have to wait.

Can imagine entering the area while others almost killed it which triggers you to complete the quest without barely hitting it is just as bad.

Yeah I agree immersion is totally off, for me and the tihing I already hated with D-Immortal is that you have toi compete with other players for quest mobs and you never manage to clear the map because it constantly respawns mobs… I am not exactly happy with all this mmo aproach. I want my personal game back. And all the other strange names I see around like Druiddude and what ever else… is not doing anything for me. I have bought the base game and will retain it , but boy am I glad I did not buy the higher ones… They really need to zup theri game that I wanna play that for longer than it takes me to play the campaign an then do at least some farming… what ever the endgame is , as we don’t know much about it atm… I am having very mixed feelings atm
