Is achievement XP hunting worth it?

The first Rewards Track is almost gone. What are my results? I got 441,778 XP total. 25,300 XP of this I’ve collected from achievements (Duels 8,200 + DMF 17,100). That is cca. 6% of the total and cca. 850 gold from the extra levels.

I’m thinking - was the grinding worth it? Playing suboptimal decks in ranked? I do not know. I could have achieved more wins with decks not focusing on achievements, but I feel I would have played less games and would have less fun.

Why less games? I would not be forced to grind for that specific uncommon situation so I expect I would play less games in overal.

Why less fun? I enjoy completing goals other than just “win, win, win…”.

Hm, I think I will grind less the next expansion, but will not ignore the achievements.

Sorry, just something I think about. Maybe, it is interesting for others too, so I decided to share.

Reading your post feels like the ladder grind became the rewards grind. I don’t have many thoughts to share, to be honest. The two times I got burned out with Hearthstone was because of the many multiple grinds of the game. I’m playing again with no grind at all, play what I want when I want for whatever results but I do admit that not having a goal leads to loss of interest.

It’s like we are between a rock and a hard place, or like we say in Portugal, between the wall and the sword.

Sorry that I wasn’t helpful, just sharing my reaction to your post.

Purely for XP? Absolutely not.

I kind of equate it to arena, in that it’s only worth achievement hunting if you find it fun. In which case it really does depend on how you go about it. I’ve been playing meme/achievement decks 29/30 days of each month and then putting in 1 day of grinding (usually a few hours during a friends stream) to get myself to either gold/platinum/diamond 10 for the extra packs. Because of the bonus stars if you get on a run you can easily jump up the ranks if you’re playing a good deck that you know how to play. This month I accidentally got to gold 10 right at the start and have been pretty much on the floor, with the one attempt i semi-made was when i ran into 3 quests rogues who high rolled and decided that gold 10 was enough this month :grinning:

So for me the achievements probably countered the extra xp from winning more games, but were way more fun to do and because i put in one small grind, my monthly rewards barely suffered.

Thank you both for replying. Both of you have a good point - Vlad: “not having a goal leads to loss of interest.”, Ixnay: “it’s only worth achievement hunting if you find it fun.”

I just do not find grinding ladder with a goal of getting wins too enjoyable. I had a different problem  I’ve grinded and finished all the not-so-random achievements quite fast (December?) and then lost interest in the game. Then, they added mini-set achievements and the game became fun again for a short time  So I need to go slower now with the achievements

Before the introduction of the Rewards Track, my goal was to get to Diamond ranks (D10 or D5) each month, but I think doing achievements instead of that is better for me

When they first added monthly rewards to ranked, I climbed to rank 5 the first 10 months in a row. After that I decided that doing a meme to 15 was way more fun. Then they made that way harder, so I stopped caring about the rewards all together. Then finally they increased the rewards to the current system, so I decided it was worth once a month to play just to win and see where I end up, which has been mainly platinum 10, gold 10 when lazy or 1 time diamond 10 when I hit a hot streak so felt I had to ride it out :slightly_smiling_face:

One big positive of HS is that you don’t have to grind for rewards.

Yes, I get some packs and cards at the end of the season. Also, I get some gold for leveling up. But they are so minimal, playing just for these wouldn’t worth it. So I play only for the fun, instead  Achievements give only XP, and a minimal amount. So I don’t miss anything if I don’t do them. I did some of these for the challenge, and not for the reward. The rest - I don’t care about. I will not craft legendary cards just to be able to do an achievement. So no stress for the players. Ofc, this reduces the income of Blizzard. If the achievements would give some cool useful rewards, more players would do them, so it could be an actual “content”.

Actually avoided Quest Rogue completely today and went on an 8-1 run (ended 9-2) whilst clearing my dailies/weeklies, so I’ve actually ended at platinum 9 for the month :slightly_smiling_face:

I’ll wait until tomorrows rewards and then I’m gona clear my pity timer to finish up my barrens pack opening and I’ll probably make some silly achievement chaser decks but i’ll hold off crafting anything until at least I get the free legendary at level 50 :slightly_smiling_face:

Personally I don’t rate the achievements, it just takes my time going in and claiming them. I realise this I a grinch view but I understand why the added them as it gives people goals.

I didn’t achievement Hunt at all and made it to level 294 but I guess as I play a wide range of decks so naturally picked up quite a few achievements naturally.

hey girl, how are you, after our meeting in ladder?

I’m sorry, I do not recall meeting you in ladder. But I guess I am ok, losing as always with my shi*ty decks

The quantity of time and XP gained for achievements (assuming you want to do them all) is probably not that worth it in the long run. Even because most achievements are not even something to hunt, but things that can happen and if it does you get remembered about it. Like the Oh My Yogg kill, you can’t physically make it possible, it has to just happen, and if you try to hunt for that you’re not having fun at all.
From what i saw, most achievements were done playing normally and naturally. Stuff like the “do x damage with Shaman” or “heal x with Paladin” were automatic. But i did find interest in achievements when i got bored: not for the XP, but for new ideas and goals if you want. You read an achievement for Greybough for example, and think that you haven’t made a deck for druid or around that mechanic, so you do, and you try the hunt while playing a new fun deck.
If you create a terrible deck just for the achievement not sure you’ll get the fun out of it. My suggestion is that at the beginning of an expansion don’t go hunting for achievements, but when you get bored or want to try something new check them up and maybe build some decks to gets those achievements as a way of trying something different, new, or as you said to have a goal. Again, i did all the Paladin ones naturally cause i had a deck i played a lot, but i didn’t have the Warrior or Priest ones, so i took it as an excuse to build some new decks and try them out.
