Been playing this game on and off since 2015 i believe. Back in the day the game used to be a lot more fun (the traditional gamemode- hearthstone) back when we didn’t have 20 diffrent card packs. Back then the game was simpler… you had to be clever in your deck building… now it’s just…. “what’s the meta deck, what build can kill a full health player in 1 round?”. This is not hearthstone anymore. Theres SO many awful cards in this game now that do SO much dmg in a round that it’s just not fun anymore. The devs seemed to run out of ideas and started making these OP cards. There’s no strategy in deck building anymore. As a long time hearthstone player, I think it’s time to close the curtains on this game.
All the best to ya’all

I’ve been playing since beta, I’ve quit ranked on 3 different occasions.
- Scholomance Academy - Reason was simple: balance was horrible. This was the first step into the current problems with hearthstone. Following Ashes where DH, objectively speaking the worst balanced class across its entire lifespan- either broken or unusable, Scholomance took too big of a step into introducing numerous horrendous balance decisions with slow balance changes.
- Fractured in Alterac Valley - I remember this expansion worse than United in Stormwind. Stormwind at least had an amount of charm at the start of the expansion, Alterac had no charm. Partly due to the fault of Stormwind , partly due to its own issues with introducing horrible balance into the game. I tried playing Voyage to the Sunken City but ultimately didn’t return properly until Murder at Castle Nathria.
- I took small breaks during Showdown in the Badlands and mainly played BGs because this expansion was awful, I did the same with The Great Dark Beyond because this is the worst expansion since Stormwind and it isn’t even close. The current meta is still feeling the effect this expansion had on HS. I’m again taking another break from HS very shortly after Across the Timeways. Lost City of Un’Goro, Emerald Dream, were okay expansions but were hindered from GDB and specifically the Starcraft miniset which has destroyed any semblance of fun or balance from the game. Timeways is another great offender of how awful the current approach to hearthstone’s balance and development (profit&engagement>player fun&feedback).
- There has been a noticeable lack of real balance changes since the big Starcraft nerf (which has done nothing other than ruin zerg decks). Cards like Target Dummy have been unchanged since their release and have been problematic from the start. Now, predictably, spawn multiple OTK from over 30 health decks with minimal set up and virtually zero disruption potential. That deck is more oppressive than freeze mage ever was. Where is the emergency patch? The temporary card removal or change? Its just allowed to exist. Why? Bad balance is what is making them the money. They don’t care if people hate the game anymore, its all bottom line. They claimed to reduce power level of the game and its currently worse than the majority of Stormwind post first Warlock quest nerf. Its almost as if, like many large developers currently, no longer care what their players think as long as the $$$ keep rolling in. I hate to rag on a game I’ve played for literally 12 years but 2019 onwards has seen a systematic increase in mechanic toxicity and decrease in player interaction leading to more and more players leaving, who even makes content on the game anymore? It was once up there with League of Legends as a Twitch dominator now I can’t name a single player of standard who doesn’t say that they only play the game still is because it is what pays their bills and they’d change in an instant if they knew their viewers would stay.
I agree that the game lost its magic but that happened years ago, its just that now there is no evidence it was ever there its been gone for so long. Its partly due to the currently multiplayer gaming landscape where every kid wants to go pro so everyone feels the need to play optimally at all times but also due to developers engaging with that and encouraging it. Unless there is a massive balance overhaul patch, this will be the end of my 12 year run playing this game. Even battlegrounds is starting to feel the effect of bad balance and design, its been so long since we’ve seen something original so it feels stale. They’ve ruined arena completely and they stopped making solo content because surprise surprise, it didn’t make money. Its all it comes down to now, not the charm, not to keep players happy, no, if it doesn’t increase profit, it won’t happen.
I truly hope the game starts to lose money as players leave. I’ve never rooted for a game’s failure before but how I’ve watched this systematic destruction of a once genre-leading game, I cannot wait to hear the news the servers are shutting down and maybe they’ll realise we were right.

This expansion has ruined the game so many auto destroy cards its just stupid.
i stopped giving them money when they decided to introduce standard and wild , bcause it was obvious what would happen
