Improving AI Behavior for Leavers in ARAM: Three Proposed Scenarios

Hi everyone,

We all know the frustration of a teammate leaving an ARAM match. Currently, the AI often performs poorly, either feeding the enemy or being completely useless. I’d like to propose a rework of bot behavior when a player disconnects, focusing on three specific scenarios:

1. “Maximum Survival” Passive Mode
The bot should prioritize staying alive above all else. Even if it’s a melee champion, the AI should play extremely safely, staying out of the enemy’s engagement range and only poking when safe. It should “know” enemy cooldowns (which is fair, as experienced players track this anyway) and only step up when the threat is low. The goal is to prevent the bot from becoming a gold source for the enemy.

2. “Follow & Protect” Mode
By clicking on the bot or using a specific ping, a player should be able to make the bot follow them. In this state, the bot continues to play in “Survival Mode” but stays tethered to the player, providing backup or using CC/utility only when the player engages or is engaged upon.

3. “Stay at Base” Option
If the team decides that any bot movement is detrimental to the match, there should be an option to command the bot to remain in the fountain. Sometimes, playing 4v5 is objectively better than having an AI that might accidentally feed the opposing team.

Conclusion:
Implementing these behaviors would give the remaining players more control over the situation and stop leavers from inadvertently sabotaging the game further through poor AI performance.
