Improving ARAM Balance: Team Comp Restrictions and Pseudo-Random Distribution (PRD)

Hi everyone,

While ARAM is meant to be a random mode, we’ve all experienced matches that are decided at the loading screen because of extremely unbalanced team compositions. I believe the mode needs some fundamental “guardrails” to remain enjoyable.

1. Team Composition Constraints
I propose a rule for the randomizer: a team should never have more than three champions of the same type. For example:

  • No more than three Melee or three Ranged champions.

  • No more than three champions of the same class (e.g., three Assassins or three Tanks).
This would prevent “automatic loss” scenarios where one team simply cannot interact with the other due to range or role disparity.

2. Implementing Pseudo-Random Distribution (PRD)
Currently, the RNG can feel unfair. I suggest using Pseudo-Random Distribution (PRD) — a proven mechanic used in many top-tier games.

  • PRD adjusts the probability of an event (like getting a specific type of champion) based on previous outcomes.

  • If you’ve had several melee-heavy games in a row, the PRD would increase the likelihood of getting a ranged champion in the next match.

  • This creates a much better “feeling” of randomness and ensures a more varied experience over several games.

Conclusion:
ARAM should stay random, but it should also be playable. These changes would preserve the spirit of the mode while removing the most frustrating outliers.
