Varian takes both the Assasin and warrior slot hence control the team META, he can be a Judge on what fits the team(there could be a Tank already and he can increase the Overall DPS).
but what I hate is when HE happens to be the ONLY one capable of tanking.

If he was put there because of tanking capabilities, it should force the tanking heroic talent.
