D3D Device errors? (Crashing often)

Hi all!

I’m posting on behalf of a friend as he’s been having these issues for a while and is on a pretty long ban at the moment (I think he said 20 hours?). Anyway, my friend built his PC last summer. This is specifically about the GPU mainly. He’s running a GTX 1070 6GB (with a factory OC I’m pretty sure), and often crashes on Overwatch. He crashes periodically and slightly rarely on most games, with an error about the D3D device being removed or anything along those lines. However, it’s EXTREMELY apparent in Overwatch. When he originally got his PC the game would crash maybe 1 once every two games. In it’s current state (and specifically last night), he crashed 4 times in one game, basically consecutively. One after the other. He’d crash, load back in and a minute or two later would crash with a similar error.

So far he’s tried updating all his drivers, tried disabling some programs, ran the game at minimum settings for the highest FPS, etc. It’s getting ridiculous now and we just can’t enjoy the game together, which is annoying as I bought this game last summer to specifically play with him. Only recently have I properly gotten into it. If anyone has any idea what’s going on, we’d like to hear your thoughts. For a last resort he’s thinking about sending the GPU back and getting a replacement, but we have no idea if that will really fix anything. It could be the motherboard, or anything.

Cheers in advance!
