As soon as the countdown of days to the end of the season starts, the skill level in bronze/silver changes completely.
The high ranks reached their goal and don’t want to risk going down. They log on to their smurf accounts, to chill, bully the low ranks and to feel good about themselves, how skilled they are.

You are both right and wrong.
Some come out, but nothing major. You also get the golden weapon hunters who come to just do placements and the likes.
Also add to that that it’s your season peak that counts for comp points. So if you’ve peaked and won’t push on, you’ll probably just chill out while playing.
I have to agree with you Jarhead. The last remaining days were terrible and the new season start up in the same. There are smurfs everywhere and to be honest, they openly admit it. There are videos dedicated to higher rank players mocking the lower ranks by ruining their games for likes and attention.
Comp is broken and it always has been, with OW2 is on the horizon there is no need to fix it. There are some restrictions in place within OW2 to help with all of this but ultimately you’re stuck with it in OW1.
It’s pretty real, and it will be exactly the same in Overwatch 2.

Well, sadly, the maths behind it is, no one cares.
If you play against a smurf, learn from it. If you play with a smurf, learn from them.
The games been going long enough, people should realise no one cares. Maybe it just isn’t worth complaining about it.
