Game feeling "late"

I have a weird problem for the last month. The game I see feels a bit late, like a little lagging, but my latency is always around 70 ms and fps around 100.

This feels the most if I play hitscan. I jump into deathmatch and when I hit someone I hear the hitsound, but enemy hp decreases like 0.5 second later, or players teleporting.

Sometimes when I die, kill cam shows different view. For example as Rein I got shattered with my shield still having about 200-300 hp, but on a kill cam its broken. One time on my screen I died behind Mei wall, but on kill cam I wasn’t behind wall, I was in front of it and Mei just shot me.

What I’m trying to say that the game that I see feels like is a bit late, or lagging, but the latency normal, I don’t get it why would this happen?

EDIT: Just played one comp game and noticed that even my teammates running from spawn are teleporting, like skipping frames. Enemy pharah isn’t just flying in the sky, shes teleporting.

Greetings V12,

that does indeed sound like latency. Did you try the steps from the connection troubleshooting article already, including the Advanced Troubleshooting section?

Pachimari

Tried all of them, nothing helps. Today had few games lagging really bad, latency was jumping from 100 to 300. Lost another game, then instantly went on speedtest, net to check my internet speed and download speed was 53 mbps. It’s something wrong with the game, not my connection. Or there is some background programs running that couses this, but I closed everything, I just don’t what to do…

Hello V12,

If you’ve tried all the steps in the article linked by Pachimari and the issue persists, we will need some diagnostics so we can investigate:

  • Details of issue:
  • Date/time it started:
  • City/Country:
  • Internet Provider:
  • Traceroute (right after a disconnection or whenever you’re experiencing the issue)
  • Pathping (right after a disconnection or whenever you’re experiencing the issue)
  • WinMTR (right after a disconnection or whenever you’re experiencing the issue)

  • Details of issue: Latency spikes, feels like i’m seeing not actual game
  • Date/time it started: about a month ago
  • City/Country:Kaunas, Lithuania
  • Internet Provider: Cgates

I have made some WinMTR test today,

First one, I had one latency spike:

Second one, played mystery heroes, didn’t get latency spikes, but it felt late

First of all, it seems that you are connecting wirelessly, as suggested by the first line of the test. But the real problem starts in the second and third step:

| client-87-247-80-2.cgates.lt - 3 | 575 | 562 | 1 | 35 | 285 | 6 |
| dmz-2-132.cgates.lt - 1 | 619 | 618 | 3 | 13 | 3963 | 4 |

It looks like you need to contact your internet service provider. You must describe the problem and attach tests.

What about these lines?

| et-0-0-2-br01-eqam1. as57976. net - 1 | 611 | 609 | 31 | 105 | 2334 | 41 |
| et-0-0-2-br01-eqam1.as57976. net - 0 | 330 | 330 | 31 | 101 | 1539 | 1539 |

I’m looking at average scores and I see that maybe my internet provider could be responsible for latency spikes, but it’s average is pretty low, while this et-0-0-2-br01-eqam1. as57976. net, having above 100 average score and spikes up to 2000+ might be responsible for game feeling late?

Yes, it may also be a problem here, but it’s worth it in the first place by removing the problem of the initial path. Final results may be the result of previous problems.

The thing is that if the diagnostics are showing issues in steps before those ones, we can’t really know if those previous issues are the root of the issue or not. First that must be fixed, and then if the packet loss persists in further steps. we can take a look.

As Raxr said, it’s important that you contact your internet provider so they can review the diagnostics and make sure everything is working properly.
