High ping lately

Can someone from Blizzard please contact “Hotnet” and try to solve the problem with them? there are many Hotnet customers that complain about the same issue. this is not something we as users can solve by ourselves. I don’t think switching ISP just because one game’s ping is too high is a reasonable solution.

i still got the problem

Ok, i’ve given up. changed my ISP and now the ping is 100ms which is much better. still not the 80ms I used to have, but oh well.

I opened a ticket on Blizzard’s support, they asked for diagnostics from the Blizzard looking-glass tool.

I hope with more data they could pinpoint the issue, so please post in the following thread:

(unfortunately the looking-glass thing only gives me an error right now, but maybe it’s just me…)

cant we open the same thing here

i’m banned from US forums

what ISP ,bezek ?

Partner on cable. although i had some issues today where ping spiked to 140 at some parts. but on average it’s around 105.

I have a similar issue, about 3 updates ago my ping started staying at about 97ms, it used to be a solid 60-70ms before the updates but I didn’t think much of it since 97ms is still quite playable even though I prefer it to be lower.
But then I started getting spikes to around 160ms and the game is now only on 120ms, it’s almost as if in every new update that comes out my ping gets worse, a couple of days ago I was even booted off a comp game with no explanation as to why, my internet was completely fine outside of Overwatch.

I play on the EU servers and every other game I play with EU servers does not have this issue.
I have also spoken to my ISP and they say that since my ping is fine with every other server we tested it can’t be an ISP issue.

So naturally I checked everything is fine on my end (updated drivers etc) and everything seemed to be fine.
Now playing with 150ms on an EU server which is not that far away from me is awful, sometimes I get hits which don’t appear to register, and sometimes they do register but I don’t get the X telling me that I actually got the hit and elimination, I just see it in the kill feed!
Pharah is almost unplayable as the rockets sometimes don’t even register they just get swallowed into the walls and ground.

My specs are:
OS - Windows 10 Pro
CPU - Intel core I7 2600k
GPU - MSI GTX750ti
RAM - G.Skill 12GB 1600Mhz Ram

I’m totally not surprised by the increase in RTT as soon as the packets enter Equinix. As this has been the case for everyone with sudden latency spikes the last couple of months.

I’m 100% sure Blizzard is aware of this, but are unable to point at their hosting center as the problem.

So i did solved with the help from the suport team my fps huge drops, thx guys youre awsome, but now an even nasty problem apear, my ping is around 200-220 always… checked other games, cs go 60-70 ping/warframe constant 70-75 ping/league of legends 60-80 ping also i checked my ping on amsterdam servers max was 90 ping and in russian servers max 150 ping. This problem wasnt ocure when i haded the fps drops problem or before having problems at all, btw i live in romania

check on france servers , because it’s where the blizzard location is in EU

Lately its really hard to play the game, everything feels like its late for me, players teleporting, I did tests with WinMTR and here are results for both europe IPs:

I’m having the same issue - high ping (around 160), with no problem with any other internet activity (watching streams, streaming, browsing, playing other online games).

Like people before me said, it looks like the problematic server is the one before last.

yea, i’ve jumped from 70 or 80 up to 500 or 600. Did the checklist (IP, DNS, Router resets), and tried wired and wireless (5 GHz and 2.4 GHz) connections and i still can’t get below 200. The game is unplayable for me now  :sob:

Hello everyone,

I’ll try to go through the thread and provide an answer to everyone that did post diagnostics.

Just as a general reminder

If you are experiencing connection issues, please make sure you follow all the steps in this article, including the advanced troubleshooting: battle.net/support/article/99037

If the issue persists, we need data in order to investigate each case:

 • Details of issue:
 • Date/time it started:
 • City/Country:
 • Internet Provider:
 • Traceroute (right after a disconnection or whenever you’re experiencing the issue)
 • Pathping (right after a disconnection or whenever you’re experiencing the issue)
 • WinMTR (right after a disconnection or whenever you’re experiencing the issue)

There’s a big packet loss in this jump in your WinMTR. I would recommend contacting your internet provider so they can make sure everything is working correctly.

There’s packet loss in these two jumps. The best would be contacting your internet provider, so they can review your case and see what’s causing that packet loss.

There’s a big ms jump later in the connection, but seeing the packet loss there, it’s hard to know if there’s an issue happening where the ms go much higher, or if the ping increase comes because of the packet loss before.

There’s small packet loss in every single jump since the start of the connection. On top of that, there’s a ms increase where it goes from 50 to 112 in a jump (the average goes from 13 to 67). I would recommend you contact your internet provider so they can review your case and check if everything is fine.

You have small packet loss and very high ping spikes (up to almost 4000) right at the beginning of your connection. Keep in mind the average value for this jump (which is your local network) is around 1ms.

Power Cycle your network devices:
battle.net/support/article/31851

Release and renew your IP, and flush your DNS:
battle.net/support/article/82450

Make sure your network drivers are up to date:
battle.net/support/article/31024

Close background applications to make sure there’s no other program interfering with the game:
battle.net/support/article/23848

Disable or temporarily uninstall your security software:
battle.net/support/article/23672

If this doesn’t work, I would recommend contacting your internet provider so they can check with you that everything is fine with your router and local network.

In your case the problem seems to be here. Those * usually mean there’s packet loss in that jump on the connection. And right after you see a huge ms increase. I would recommend contacting your internet provider so they can investigate it.

This router is the last hop in Israel. After that all the routers are Europeans, which explains the jump. I don’t know why 2/3 pings were dropped, but you can see that afterwards the ping is flawless, with normal values for accessing Europe from Israel. That is, until it reaches the 12th router.

There is some additional aggregate information from this thread - many of the people in here are Israelis (easily seen from .il), but each one has different ISP. I use Hotnet with Hot infrastructure, while ORK uses 018 with Bezeq infrastructure. That means it can’t be a problem with our ISP or with out infrastructure provider.

Just to make it clearer, I have pinged 137.221.78.73 (the problematic server) and 137.221.78.35 (the last hop before the problematic server). The results are very clear - high ping starts only at the problematic server.
https:// imgur. com/a/K57GR8o

Well it can be a backbone problem, but the first jump inside of the hosting center is common between hundreds of threads from all over Europe. So even if there is some type of issue particular to Israel, that is not the root cause of the latency issues.

The problem starts right before the ping raises, though. If there is packet loss in a node, we can’t really know if anything that comes after that is due to that packet loss or not. So we first need to get that packet loss (or any other issue) that arises earlier in the connection, to see if the issue persists after that. That’s why I’m telling you to contact your internet providers so they can make sure everything is fine.

Directly pinging the router works fine. Maybe it has some problems with low-ttl pings or something.
https:// imgur .com/a/wYBG2c2

As for contacting my ISP, ORK already did, and got this response:

I play on the EU servers and every other game I play with EU servers does not have this issue.
I have also spoken to my ISP and they say that since my ping is fine with every other server we tested it can’t be an ISP issue.

I’m in the same situation, and according to my ISP, everything seems fine.

Directly pinging the router won’t show anything, since the packet loss is not in the router, but further in the connection.

When contacting your ISP, make sure you pass the traceroute on to them, and indicate that there’s packet loss in jump 6 so they can review it.
