I can't describe how bad I am at aiming

Sensory processing disorder is, in a nutshell, an issue where stimuli from the outside world is processed atypically by the brain. Common alongside a lot of neurodevelopmental disorders it can affect the senses to the point of pain in some people.

I’m sensitive to:

Light (I can see screens and even lightbulbs flickering, so I’ve had to invest in a PC monitor with a high refresh rate.) I have the brightness on the backlight set to it’s lowest setting at all times. I’ve been known to play with a cloth over the monitor whilst wearing sunglasses in the dark because it’s been ‘too bright.’

Sound (I have the sound turned waaaaaaay down in this game because it’s super loud otherwise) I wear headphones to block out surrounding noises. I have issues understanding callouts because its audio only and I can’t see their faces move. I’m not hearing impaired, there’s just a massive amount of ‘lag’ between hearing something and registering it as someone’s voice saying ‘Widow top left’… but by then I’ve usually found her bullet with my face XD.

On the bright side of that one: I can often hear people trying to flank me well before I’m in danger.

Issues with motor skills. Whilst IRL this means I trip over my own feet, fall UP the stairs, and walk into solid objects you can see from space; in game it means my typing is slow and full of mistakes, hitting wrong keys and ‘fat fingering’ ults is common, wandering off map edges because I forgot to stop pressing W near the edge. On bad days I have to just play Mercy/Moira because even though I love Ana I’d be less than useless with her.

I play with a permanent case of ‘brain lag’, which is like playing with high ping only you can never fix it. Information in game takes longer to ‘register’ before I can react to it (cue me being super paranoid about positioning all the time.)

This absolutely affects aim. People with SPD can have issues with both Gross and Fine motor skills.

Having issues with these things doesn’t mean you can’t do things that use those senses, it just means you’ll find things that are way more of a chore than they should be because of it. Being tired or ill makes those issues worse so some days I just have to forgo playing in favour of doing something else.

Oh jeez, that was a metric ton of words… I really hope this doesn’t come off as ‘wall o’text.’

TL;DR brain laggy, makes shooting the things harder than it should be
