Hi there, I’m pretty new to PC Overwatch, and I’m still getting the hang of things. I’m just wondering if it’s normal to encounter enemy players that are above my skill level? Like, I’m pretty much just starting out, and I’m being matched with players in Diamond, so I feel as if I cannot keep up : (. Is this a common occurrence for new players, or is this a problem on the matchmaker’s part?

Well, it’s like this: the game doesn’t know how well you play at the start - so it tries out different things. You might get thrown in with the sharks, unable to keep up with anyone, but still win because your team carries you -> you will be judged as even better. It will settle on something if you play more.
I have experienced something very similar: a friend of mine started playing, we duo-queued and I just picked random heroes and did some hard carrying for my team. We didn’t always win, but had around 80+% win rate. Well, after that he did some FFA leveling before he started comp and because of his “boosted” MMR, he was ranked even high above me. He has since dropped of course, and it was a harsh period to slowly fall and feel outmatched, but after a while you will reach the place where you belong and fit in - in order to actually start getting better.
