Overwatch 2 developer blog: Matchmaker and competitive deep dive, part 1

We’ve got changes coming to the game over the next few months which will dramatically reduce these disparities.

I want to talk about this for a while. To me it sounds like we will still have unbalanced matches for several weeks. This is not great for anyone. People at high levels will be frustrated because they don’t get peers that match their skill and low-level players will struggle to win anything.

This one side stomping has been going on for a long time now and isn’t enjoyable for anyone. The number of frustrated players because they have no chance at all in their matches is enormous.

The account isn’t banned, just so you know. (That’s my only 2 cents to this conversation)

And you know this, how?

Lol, love that you care so much :heavy_heart_exclamation:

Alright, so first off, thanks a lot for sharing all this information. There has been a lot of misunderstandings happening and this clears that up a lot. However, at the same time, this feels like a way to say that the claims of a forced 50%-win rate are indeed true. Because you just end up getting matches with worse teammates as ‘compensation’ for the team’s mmr. I get that fair matches are a big concern. but how exactly is it fair that I can never escape my rank because I have to solo-carry my team to victory every time I play, or at least until the matchmaker starts throwing me in diamond teams and others need to carry me? Sorry, but I fail to see how this system is fair to the users. As others have stated, I would much rather have a (hidden) solo queue option where I only get ranked with people that have the same mmr as I have, and where I don’t end up as some sort of compensation. and please, find a way to make it so that rank accurately reflects the mmr rating, and not some sort of fake rank. there are rewards tied to this fake rank, and for me that means that I end up having a lot of trouble getting golden weapons because i miss out on a lot of competitive points at the end of a season.

Could you answer my post also?

I invite you to reply to my post as well.

Which post is that? (20 chars)

That is about as far from true as you can get.

A fair match will always be 50/50. That’s good match making.

Ahh yeah well I agree with you. The match-making system will continue to be problematic. I don’t quite get it myself but people jump from Plat to silver, even though they’ve been plat most of OW1.

I can only hope they make decent changes to the MMR system but I’m not getting my hopes up.

Because i saw him playing with the account. Can’t recall if it was yesterday or the day before but Rodimusprime was playing overwatch.

I’ve only experienced less than 10 stomps since season 2 started so in my personal experience the matchmaker works better than it did in the beginning.
Most of my games have pretty much gone down to the wire.

Yes I know he plays OW, but I’m talking about the forums.

If your account is perma banned, then i’m under the impression that you can’t play or post on forums. Being silenced is different since you can still play but not post.

Yeah that’s correct.

Silenced is basically being forum suspended, both the same thing.

Then why do you keep saying that he’s banned if he’s silenced instead? It’s a very different state.

Because it’s the same thing. Being silenced is preventing him from commenting on forums which means he’s technically been suspended. :man_shrugging:

Anyway, I’m not going to carry on going off-topic. This is a discussion about the match making system. Not going to let Rod derail yet another discussion.

Because he doesn’t actually know, and ultimately is wrong. It isn’t suspended.

But he is utterly obsessed with it. I am kind of envious of how little he has going on in life if this is his obsession.

Using a different term just leads to misunderstandings. It’s better to use the real terms because even banning and suspension are vastly different there’s no coming back from one of them.
