I am the same, have around 24 characters of which maybe 18 are eligible, started to do this today with a friend who has 40+ eligible characters 
I used to think I was a bit of an altoholic, but seeing how many characters others have I now realise I am a novice or amateur 
I have 10 characters I just never get round to levelling them all up 
once the level squish happens I’ll probably do it though

Got ~20 characters that matter, then half a dozen for misc. reasons like scoping other servers’ AHs, saying hi to forum people, achievement gathering/help and just checking out how races look.
I have one on Silvermoon but meeting up might prove tricky.
Well I ran my four, on the third attempt I got “love rockets x4” and almost wet myself before seeing the x4 those tricksters!!!

Lots of people don’t just focus on end game - gearing is boring bcoz it’s gonna absolute in 6 months. Many veteran/old players would like to do things which are more permanent in games like alts, achivements, mounts, pets etc. And with alts it’s very easy to grind.

I had 19 max level characters before the Anniversary event. I put all of the rest through KR AV and now have a huge number of max characters (46ish).
They don’t have essences but they are in either 385 benthic or the new assault token gear.
I never tried KR, I used the bonus 15% to catch up for flying and then finished war campaign

Not long before we start the Children’s Week fiasco 
I saw it drop for a group member in my very first run, on the first day.
I’m not gonna farm it. I am running my alts for guaranteed things.
As for the drop chance, due to lack of samples figures will be inaccurate, and we also don’t know whether Blizzard has tweaked the chance at any point.
Its always been 1 in 3333 exactly like Sha . Its been number crunched by long time collectors since its first appearance ive no idea why you ignore the facts.
