11.0 and beyond - what's your expansion feature/story wishlist?

What’s up what’s up!

With all the crazy personal & assumed fake expansion leaks going around, I thought maybe it would be nice to have a thread of wishlist features and story items one month away from Blizzcon. Here’s a few of mine, what would you like to see in future expansions?

  • class relevancy - prime example of it being done well is Paladins, lore-heavy but still always relevant to the story through demons, undead and general presence in the alliance. DK’s and DH’s were introduced in amazing ways and then forgotten after expansions, I hope the same won’t happen with Evokers. Introduce a faction of DK’s which go around rooting out rogue scourge, and DH’s hunting demons across Azeroth long after Legion. Reintroduce monks by having them be a staple in militias/future expeditions rather than limited to Pandaria and Pandaren. Blizz has gotten so good at side stories, would love to see some sidequests surrounding old classes, or the return of class quests similar to how we’ve had race-specific quests recently like the man’ari

  • Some sort of Baldur’s gate style Oathbreaker paladin questline, perhaps like green-fire quest but turns your light-based spells into void. A dark paladin or whatever.

  • removal of weapon restrictions, I wish my survival hunter wouldn’t be forced to use 2h Melee weapons, and polearms especially - would be wicked to dual wield. Rogues to use swords whenever they like instead of needing daggers etc…

  • removal of all class restrictions!! Though can appreciate in some cases doesn’t work as well

  • Frost DK and survival reworks, DK fantasy to be more cohesive across specs, frost to become a bit more challenging and have more flavour and survival have a cohesive fantasy rather than, bombs, polearms, and pets. I wanna be rexxar and be a guerrilla fighter, always thought incorporating a sort of short-timed temporary stealth mechanic with camouflage could be cool. Hit and run kinda vibes with your pet.

  • Archaeology rework similar to the secrets of azeroth event

  • A plate-wearing 2H battlemage style class

  • Player housing of course :eyes:

Good raids, better loot system for pugs, that’s about it really.

I won’t play retail again until they get rid of the 90s romantic drama style storytelling. When it goes back to Warlords of Draenor style orcish brutality, the Cataclysm Garrosh, the Warcraft 3 Thrall. It needs some testosterone, it needs some down to the core Warcraft, not high fantasy romance and soppy boring nonsense that makes you just feel tired of the game, like it’s no longer for the original audience type.

I hope to god that Chris Metzen can turn the ship around, so the game doesn’t actually just have a slow, unexciting death. I shouldn’t be more excited about replaying Cataclysm (the worst expansion) than playing Dragonflight, but that’s where we are at. Chris Metzen made Warcraft what it was, I hope he can fix it.

As for the gameplay/classes… I don’t care, I play Warrior. Not a fan of DF Warrior gameplay either tho, Spear of Bastion for example makes no sense as a Warrior ability.

My wish list is:

Tinker class
Housing
More deterministic loot system
Better and more personal storytelling

Class questlines and sets that reflect them as a reward, possibly cosmetic. Housing/garrison/farm
AI for normal dungeon
“Light not so good after all huh?” theme
No pirates I hate them
More class/race restrictions removed
Dracthyr more classes
Archaeology rework
Simplified crafting
Personal loot return
Darker questlines (not all just some more!)

  • Player housing.
  • Better hunter pet system/management
  • Transmog restrictions lifted for everything except class sets.
  • World content being treated like a true 4th endgame pillar.

  • A better Reward Structure to keep Open world content relevant over the first few week of their launch and keep the whole expansion features from the first to last patch relevant to do.

  • A long term goal tied to the Trading Post that would make it still relevant over the first few days of the month for those who want to really hop into it.

  • World Scalling/Ilevel Scalling in all the world maps, so every last expansion feature could keep being relevant.

  • More Timewalking Raids with a challenge version. (Could reward a recolor of the Raid Set)

  • Dragonriding for other mounts and everywhere.

  • Stop having constantly mourning characters in the story.

  • Either many more support spec or the removal of the ONLY support spec.

  • Old expansion Account-bound Reputations

  • Old expansion Account-bound Currencies (Current would be nice, but idk how they could implement it without messing with balance and character own progression)

My wishlist for 11.0

  • Make pruning a lot of abilities like in Legion and BFA, so PvP can be healthy for everyone else, even for the new players

  • Many content as Legion and BFA (for exam. campaigns, class hall, mage tower, and many others)

  • Return of Titanforge

  • No Timegated campaigns or anything else

  • Player Housing

  • More Timewalking dungeons

  • Return of Personal loots

  • Necromancer class or glyph

  • Vrykul and Ogre playable core race

  • Return of borrowed powers (Maybe)

Proper instances, non land grab, fully customisable player housing, preferably a choice of locations, housing styles etc.

I think someone said evergreen feature, which is the most vital part, anyone who wants a house should be able to get one and build it up as they please and carry on doing so for every expansion to come.

CLASS FANTASY

  • More relevant class fantasy. Not in the way Legion gameplay was, but more in terms of lore, quests, how npcs react to you. I always use this silly scenario as an example but I feel it expresses exactly what I have in mind. I’m a death knight, why is a dryad being all friendly to me and asking me to go plant flowers and save squirrels? This quest shouldn’t even be available to me. Send me “do what the living can not” like the knights of Acherus like to say… This would also give us another reason to play alts. Actually experience the world from a different perspective, not just gameplay and class actions.
  • More class specific customization. Why can’t warlocks have a bit of fel corruption on them? Death knights could have other various forms of decay, and different colour eye glows (think maldraxxus green, red, even purple). Mages could also have some sort arcane runes used either as tattoos or other magic effects. Whilst we’re here, the Eredar customization were so poor compare to what’s available for NPCs…
  • More class specific challenges like the Mage Tower.

TMOG

  • More tmog flexibility through typeless items.
  • More RACE SPECIFIC tmogs. Essentially something in between heritage armour and regular sets. Make more armour that’s only for Orcs and Mag’har. Stuff that’s specifically only available to Blood and Void Elves. Tauren specific etc. Blizzard’s art teams always seem to thrive when they focus on their core fantasies.
  • Make all tmog collectable through all armour classes. For example, if I go clear an old raid on my dk but end up with all the leather loot (true story…) at least make it so when I log in on my rogue, said leather loot is there read to be tmogged.

SYSTEMS

  • People said it above already but we need to some standardized deterministic way to work towards specific loot. I’m not saying make it easy, I’m saying make it targetable. I was super lucky with some items this tier, but some others I’m still yet to see them and season is going to finish soon. Last season got my bis trinket 2 weeks before the season ended, only for it to get nerfed…
  • OPEN WORLD +. Add the option to make it harder and more rewarding. Narrative quests are a complete joke especially if you’re geared. We can pull 20 mobs and survive, ignore all mechanics and not even get damaged. Increase rewards, ilvl, gold whatever, and make the open world feel dangerous again.
  • No timegating lore quests. If I want to no life the main story in a day, let me do so. I understand there can be some issues with quests that send us in raids and all that, but maybe this is where lfr can be looked into and revamped as some sort of “narrative mode”.

DUNGEONS & M+

  • Completely overhaul M+ so it’s a separate system to regular dungeons. Use a modular system based vaguely on Torghast, where we go through an increasingly more challenging gauntlet of kill rooms with mobs and bosses. Keep it evergreen and just add more and more to it every patch and expansion. Elemental theme, Legion Theme, Legion Theme, Scourge, Titan, you name it. We can choose affixes, or go random, think the harder you make it the bigger the reward. No lore no rp, just kill. I always like to refer to the game HADES as a model, excellent challenge curve, massive replayability.
  • Classic dungeons become essentially hard narrative instances, paired with this AI system (or you can still bring a friend ofc). A great way to finish off end of zone quests, progress NPC character arch, and hopefully a lore rich and enjoyably challenging single player experience.

Hey…so hope I won’t get much hate but, this are my desires and mine alone.

Remove Rio(there was no need for it to be implemented anyway, who wanted it had the addon and still does)

Remove the Great Vault,it disconnects you somehow from the content.Feels way better to have something drop when you actually do the content, than wait a week for the lottery.

Make World the 4th pillar.
Add solo ways of gearing as high as you can.I would rather fail alone and own it than be called names in a m+ or raid just because someone in the group is cranky and expects a GAME to be treated as a job(no fun or mistakes allowed).
AI dungeons/scenarios as far as possible could be one way.
Or something like Torghast reinvented somehow(Good for one but good as a group too)

I loved the mounts in Bfa,that you could farm and sell on the Ah…I would like some more of those.

Professions made easier(they are way too complicated, seriously)and easier to catch up.

Better catch up on gear past scrub level once season is almost over(if I don’t play 3 weeks when I come back I want to be able to do more than current week, and not log out after a few hours dissapointed).

Bring back Personal loot.

Less swirlies.

Retcon SL story(The only one I would like to brought back/kept/re used is Sire)

Make leveling for your main a little longer(not for alts though)

Sorry for the long wall…

I agree with people saying “World content as fourth pillar”, i’d also like an archaeology rework, some form of housing (I actually like the garrison, but would prefer something with fewer chores and more customization)

Also, more flail models for 1H-maces. And on a related note: ability for fury to transmog 2-handers into 1-handers, solve all the SMF/TG imbalance issues in one (Raging?) blow.

Huntards/warlocks pets’ autotaunt is not working anymore in world environment as soon as there is a warrior or druid already tanking.

I just want a tinker class please for the love of god they teased the tinker with turrets back in BFA with the islands please can we just have tinkers with turrets and drones and a mech suit for tanking already

But now with metzen behind the wheel, it’s gonna happen for sure 100%

Yes please! I hate not being able to use my warglaives at the moment :frowning:

Lots of good ideas. I do like the idea of being able to use more weapons.

If I could change one thing it would be to allow the purchase of conquest points with honour points at say 3-1. This one thing would encourage me to play way way more.

Exciting story. Please no more boring dragons/elements. Please no pirates. Please no avaloren.

At least add some undead dragons here and there, something to spice things up, if you must.

But I’m praying for K’aresh and the void lords, or a return of the scourge or Sargeras breaking free.

My wishes
An account reagent bag like ESO - pref organized mats be expansion
Being able to access all Tradeskills on one character
Removal of all transmog limits
Player housing
More focus on making the world relevant. Not sure how but I love solo stuff and would love more fun stuff today…not just dailies
Make the foam sword work in raids
Make more raid/dungeon achievements soloable
I love to see a grp ai function like in ff14
Be able to decidec which spec my pet is…hate they removed rhat
Removed faction in PVP. Assign us a color and lets fifht… should be random. Works in Eso snd Ff14
Less focus on grinding endgame. Make the journey fun - not just something you rush through… not sure how. Maybe remove lvl ? /shrug not sure
I like the idea of talent trees but not the execution. Would love something morevin style with Everquest 2…
I sooo hate fases in boss fights. Oki that a raidboss can do alot of things but I think they overcomplicate matters as it is now

Literally this. That’s all I hope for. I can tolerate this or that system, this or that class design etc, but the moment I don’t care about the world, the story and the characters, the game loses all meaning. That happened to me at the end of BfA with the N’zoth bull****, continued in SL and finally in DF it gets to the point where I completely lose interest in the story and the world to the point where I hardly remember a single character or care.

The game really needs to get back to its roots, and if Metzen can’t pull it off, then I really don’t know who will.

  • Redesign the game from the ground up for playing with the standard UI.
    • Classes should not require WAs/addons to be able to play optimally.
    • Dungeon and raid mechanics and overall difficulty should be designed without expecting people to use WAs/addons.
    • WAs/addons that trivialize dungeons/raids should get banned (via removing WoW addon API functionality).
  • Improve the standard UI so that WAs/addons are basically obsolete.
  • Reduce class complexity.
    • Every ability/talent should be intuitive and self-explanatory.
    • Every ability should feel impactful.
    • Reduce the number of abilities - no more button bloat.
