[9.0] Affliction Warlock Serious Talent REVAMP

I will introduce to you the complete rework of Warlock Affliction (not official).

Summary :

We will talk about Affliction Spec. Lock affli are caster based on dot but the spec now has a really big issues with generation of Soul Shard. Your only way to gain Soul Shard Fragment is with is agony and it isn’t constant. you have to wait, wait and wait to finally unleash all this to have a lot Unstable Affliction on the target. So yeah, a really poor gameplay and it’s the only way…

There is somes baseline change to make the spec attractive for me.

First of all, Shadow Bolt doesn’t fit the spec. Affli are not about hard casting, but channeling. So Drain Soul should be baseline and replace Shadow Bolt. Demonic Circle available in all warlock baseline. so here what is look like.

Baseline Warlock Affliction Change

Demonic Circle

2% of base mana / 0.5 sec cast / 10 sec cooldown
Summons a Demonic Circle for 15 min. Cast Demonic Circle: Teleport to teleport to its location and remove all movement slowing effects. You also learn: Demonic Circle: Teleport. Teleports you to your Demonic Circle and removes all movement slowing effects.

Drain Soul

Replaces Shadow Bolt / 40 yd range / Channeled (5 sec cast)
Drains the target’s soul, causing (75% of Spell power) Shadow damage over 5 sec. Damage is increased by 50% against enemies below 20% health.
Generates 1 Soul Shard if the target dies during this effect.

Mortal Coil

2% of base mana / 20 yd range / Instant / 45 sec cooldown
Horrifies an enemy target into fleeing, incapacitating for 3 sec and healing you for 20% of maximum health.

Curse of Tongues

1.25% of base mana / 40 yd range / Instant / 45 sec cooldown
Forces the target to speak in Demonic, increasing the casting time of all spells by 30% for 10 sec.

Unstable Affliction

…You can afflict a target with 1 (was 5) Unstable Afflictions at once.

Demonic Gateway : TALENT NOW

Explicative Note: Affli are the only warlock spec to have Mortal Coil. I think affli is all about horror, channeling and somes healing. Every Lock has a curse baseline. Affli should have Curse of Tongues. And Every demon pet has been given 1 cc and 1 special abilities. I’ll talk about it in Demonology topic.
I nerf Unstable Affliction because the generation is gonna be a lot smoother with this new talent build, so there is no need for this gameplay anymore (Hello old lock affli).

It’s important to know the fact that Affliction has now baseline:

  • 3 CC skill (Fear, Mortal Coil and 1 cc pet).
  • 1 Mobility skill (Demonic Circle)
  • 1 Defensive cd (Unending Resolve) but some healing.
  • No Burst cd.

With this talent, Affli (and the other classe) has 4 distintive playstyle and more if you combine talents. Here they are:

  • 1 column: Playstyle based on Corruption and swaping dot.
  • 2 column: Playstyle Based on Unstable Affliction.
  • 3 column: Playstyle Based on Drain Soul.
  • 4 column: Playstyle with new rotation, buffs and demon support.

Now we can move to talent (8 tiers). READ carefully because a lot of talent has changed.

Tier 1: Ressource Management

Nightfall

Your most recently applied Corruption has a 15% chance when it deals damage to cause you to regain a Soul Shard.

Soul Conduit

Every Soul Shard you spend has a 25% chance to be refunded. You passively generate 1 Soul Shard every 1 min.

Soulstealer

For every damage you deal with Drain Soul, you regain 2 Soul Fragments.

From the Shadows

Your demons gives you 1 Soul Shard Fragments every time it’s deal damage.

Tier 2: Base Skills Rotation

Absolute Corruption

Corruption deals 15% increased damage. Duration increase to 24 sec.

Inherently Unstable

Increases the critical strike chance of Unstable Affliction by 5%.

Shadow Embrace

Drain Soul applies Shadow Embrace, increasing your damage dealt to the target by 2% for 10 sec. Stacks up to 4 times.

Writhe in Agony

Agony’s damage may now ramp up to 15 stacks.

Tier 3: Basic Gameplay

Eradication

When you deal damage with Corruption, you have 6% chance to increase your spell casting speed by 20% for 10 s.

Harvester of Souls

Each time Corruption or Unstable Affliction deals damage, it has a 15% chance to deal (35% of Spell power) Shadow damage to the target and heal you for 100% of the damage dealt.

Rot and Decay

Each time your Drain Soul deals damage, it increases the duration of your Unstable Affliction, Corruption and Agony on the target by 1 sec.

Death’s Embrace

Increases the damage done by your Shadow spells by 20% when your target is at or below 35% health.

Tier 4: Defense

Siphon Life

40 yd range / Instant
Siphons the target’s life essence for 30 sec, healing you for 30% of all the damage over time on the target. Limit 1 target.

Demon Skin

Your Soul Leech absorption now passively recharges at a rate of 1% of maximum health every 1 sec, and may now absorb up to 20% of maximum health.

Harvest Life

Increases the damage of your Drain Life spell by 10% and the healing of your Drain Life spell by 100%.

Sweet Healthstone

Instant / 1 min cooldown / 2 charges
Your Healthstone heals you for an additional 50% of your maximum health. Any party or raid member using a Healthstone also heals you.

Tier 5: Mobility

Blood Horror

Instant / 30 sec cooldown
While active, any time an enemy melee attack deals damage to the Warlock, the enemy will run in horror for up to 4 sec. 1 charge. Blood Horror lasts 1 min.

Nightmare

Causes your Fear spell to inflict a Nightmare on the target when the fear effect ends. The target’s movement speed is reduced by 50% for 6 sec.

Demonic Gateway

20% of base mana / 10 - 40 yd range / 2 sec cast / 10 sec cooldown
Creates a demonic gateway between two locations. Activating the gateway transports the user to the other gateway. Each player can use a Demonic Gateway only once per 1.5 min.

Planeswalker

Reduces the cooldown on Demonic Circle: Teleport by 5 sec. Your Demonic Circle reduces the movement speed of nearby enemies by 30%.

Tier 6: Area of Effect (AOE)

Sow the Seeds

Seed of Corruption now embeds a demon seed into 1 additional nearby enemy and Seed of Corruption requires 40% less damage to explode…

Phantom Singularity

40 yd range / Instant / 45 sec cooldown
Places a phantom singularity above the target, which consumes the life of all enemies within 15 yards, dealing [8 * (15% of Spell power)] damage over 16 sec, healing you for 25% of the damage done.

Vile Taint

1 Soul Shards / 40 yd range / 1.5 sec cast / 20 sec cooldown
Unleashes a vile explosion at the target location, dealing (150% of Spell power) Shadow damage over 10 sec to all enemies within 10 yds and reducing their movement speed by 30%.

Cataclysm

40 yd range / 2 sec cast / 30 sec cooldown
Calls forth a cataclysm at the target location, dealing (50% of Spell power) Shadowflame damage to all enemies within 8 yards and afflicting them with Agony to 3 target.

Tier 7: Refine playstyle

Compounding Horror

Each time Agony and Corruption deal damage, they have a 10% chance cause your next Unstable Affliction to instantly deal (15% of Spell power) Shadow damage. stacking up to 5 times.

Creeping Death

Your Agony, Corruption, and Unstable Affliction deal their full damage 20% faster.

Haunt

2% of base mana / 40 yd range / 1.5 sec cast / 15 sec cooldown
A ghostly soul haunts the target, dealing (40% of Spell power) Shadow damage and increasing your damage dealt to the target by 10% for 15 sec. If the target dies, Haunt’s cooldown is reset.

Deathbolt

2% of base mana / 40 yd range / Instant / 30 sec cooldown
Launches a bolt of death at the target, dealing 30% of the total remaining damage of your damage over time effects on the target.

Tier 8: Burst

Soul Swap

6% of base mana / 40 yd range / Instant / 20 sec cooldown
You copy your Shadow damage-over-time effects from the target, preserving their power and duration. For 3 sec afterwards, the next target you cast Soul Swap: Exhale on will be afflicted by the copied Shadow damage-over-time effects. You cannot Soul Swap to the same target.

Endless Affliction

You may afflict a target with up to 3 Unstable Afflictions at once and when Unstable Affliction expires, it has a 8% chance to reapply itself.

Malefic Grasp

Every 1 sec, when Drain Soul deals damage, it causes all of your other periodic Affliction damage effects to instantly deal 30% of their normal periodic damage.

Dark Soul: Misery

Instant / 2 min recharge
Infuses your soul with the misery of fallen foes, increasing haste by 30% for 20 sec.

I repeate that none of this is official. It’s just my personnal point of view of the spec but i truly think that a lot of classes need this particular attention.

Here are simple suggestions to make affliction warlock the AoE specialist.

Step 1: Make affliction spread dots like unholy DK

  • Damage done by Affliction over time effects increased massively.
  • Mass Hysteria: Corrupts the target and all targets within 30 yards of the target which are in combat with Corruption, rank 10 Agony and Siphon Life. (Cost 1 Soul Shard, no cooldown)
  • Harvest Life: Raise up your weapon and begin harvesting the life of your target and all targets within 30 yards of the primary target which are in combat. Each second of Harvest Life increases the duration of your Corruption, Agony and Siphon Life by 1 second, and the duration of your Unstable Affliction by 0.5 seconds. Primary AoE dps skill
  • Mass Affliction: Your Corruptions erupt violently and becomes Unstable Afflictions, dealing massive damage over 7 seconds. (Cost 3 soul shards)
  • Drain Soul / Life: Direct your weapon towards the selected target and begin harvesting their soul, dealing large damage over 7 seconds. Drain Soul will cause your Corruption to periodically erupt into an Unstable Affliction.
  • Unstable Affliction damage done greatly increased. Unstable Affliction now prevents all of your other damage over time effects from being dispelled. When dispelled, Unstable Affliction explodes, inflicting 1000% of spell power in Shadow Damage to the target and silencing them for 6 seconds.
  • Greater Mass Affliction: Cause your Unstable Afflictions to explode, dealing 750% of Spell Power in Shadow damage, damage done is further increased based upon duration left. (Cost 5 Soul Shards, Affliction warlock ultimate ability).
  • Life Tap: Converts 20% of your HP into 3 Soul Shards.

Why does this post not have many more replies and love?
I think you make excellent suggestions.

Affliction now feels kind of boring and really weak in M+. I miss doing decent AOE and I miss draining targets (even though drain soul is a bit more playable now… still loses to DB in single target).

Blizzard, pls take his suggestions into consideration. Fingers crossed that Warlocks will be reworked for the better in Shadowlands.

Because while affliction isn’t that great atm, those suggestions won’t make it better. Also i don’t know how you can say the current design is boring yet favor this suggestion.
