After playing some Elemental in Midnight beta

Spec feels really good. It’s simple but fun to play. Gives strong old school vibes. We have to cast Lightning Bolts again and Stormkeeper is a real CD with a punch. The only thing I’d change is quality of life thing. Instead of adding Blizzard “weak aura” when our Maelstrom is capped can we get it for Power of the Maelstrom. It will be way more convenient.

The only thing I didn’t like is Voltaic Blaze replacing Flame Shock. It makes the talent kinda dead to me in PvP especially against Priests with 2x dispel.

I haven’t played the beta yet but just reading that DRE and Echoes of Great Sundering are gone sounds like a massive W.

I hate both of those talents.

Shaman class tree also has very nice changes and having your shields merged into 1 that last for an hour is huge. I’m really excited about playing Shaman for the first time in a long time.

is farseer playable in aoe?

I also tried it and to be honest. What I liked the most is 3 things:

  • They got rid of Icefury. I really disliked this ability.
  • They finally made crit useful if you used LB.
  • They pruned some modifiers. It was crazy to balance out so many.

That’s my cup of tea.

Not sure. I’m rather PvP player but I doubt with the tier set Stormbringer might be preferred PvE spec.

Are you playing MoTE and PoTM on beta and weaving LvB / LB or did you take the LvB dam increase talent?

I took Lava Burst talent but I’m thinking about it since the season 1 tier set bonus is based on Stormkeeper. Also Stormkeeper seems to have way more punch than on retail. While we have a new talent increases the chance to proc for Lava Burst it’s not as frequent as it used to be. With Primiordial Wave removal you lose 2 guaranteed Lava Burst procs per minute. Also I didn’t get the apex talents yet so it’s possible that Lava Burst damage will be higher as there is another crit damage modifier.

Also you have to either fill the empty globals with either Frost Shocks or hardcasting Lightning Bolts. Definetely skip Voltaic Blaze. Unless you play against a meele cleave or Hunter + meele. It has 7 sec CD and replaces Flame Shock.

Tbh, I want to play ele again, but not sure if I can take another rollercoaster and schizo development ele had to endure in TWW. Like, 2 reworks and large class changes mid patches.

Farseer never felt the same after they destroyed Primordial Wave.

Stormbringer just feels off, janky and spammy to the point of uncomfortable.

As for Midnight, tying ancestor to SK feels a bit weird, but I guess it just needs some getting used to.

Don’t we still get an instant LvB with Ancestral Swiftness every 30 sec?

I have completely different feelings. First TWW rework was ok. 20th anniversary was garbage rng fiesta and that change to Primordial Wave was actually fantastic to me. First of all it’s harder to ground than Primordial Wave Lava Bursts before. Literally every other Ele pressed Grounding after hearing Primordial Wave on his Weak Aura. Priests insta pressed mass dispel or just Faded damage. Now it’s not the case. Therefore we have more uptime on our Haste buff. They also reduced the RNG for DRE procs and we don’t have to play this boring and useless by itself talent Mountain Will Fall. With also a change to proc ratio from Flame Shock we don’t have to keep it on everything alive.

Midnight on the other hand gives me MoP vibes as you will cast some Lightning Bolts even in Farseer. Ancestral Swiftness stays but with Primoridial removal you still lose 2 procs a minute. DRE also gone. Stormkeeper though became a real CD. Icefury gone. It will be something between first season of DF and MoP. It all depends on tuning now to be fair but I have to say it looks fun. With R Druid and Demo looking really strong in terms of design it might be a good sign for Ele. If Arms, Outlaw, Havoc stay strong we might have a really good season for Ele.

Deleted post by accident.

Look, it is not even about how you or me felt about a specific rework. It is about the frequency and magnitude of the changes they made on patch to patch basis, which made it feel volatile and chaotic and honestly, exhausting to follow.

Yes I agree new PW was harder to ground….but I think when you factor in all the other changes that chained off of it, it was a gigantic nerf for the spec, both number and gameplaywise.

We lost the iconic and visually satisfying Lava Burst cleave (which they obviously are aware it was missed, hence the incoming Voltaic Blaze/Purging Flames talents), we lost a large chunk of maestrom generation from LvB and their overloads, which meant we had started to pump those Earth Shocks or Earthquakes later. With old Prim, you could PW and Ascend and hit LvB, everything would go off and overload, because new Prim doesnt overload, that synergy is lost.

All these changes basically killed Farseer in mythic + content. I know you are PvP mostly, but I would still argue it was a net loss in PvP too.

It took them a month to buff PW by 500% (freaking five hundred percent), that is how off target their first tuning was).

I actually like the removal of DRE and especially EoGS talent for PvE, and as for PvP I dont have an opinion yet.

But remember that we have some heavy pvp modifiers on most of our abilities, I wonder will they remember to revisit them…

But here is an example of bad and volatile design - they basically cut Ascendance power in half but are still keeping it at 3 minutes cd, realistically it should not be that long of a cd with such reduced power.

I just hope they pick a lane and stick to it.

I’ll still defend new PW as I really like it and it can still punch quite hard definetely harder than a single Lava Burst. That gameplay you mentioned was a trap. I rewatched few of my vods and actually it made me tunnelvision on spreading Flame Shock on everything. I missed few kills this way. This design is pretty reasonable and Ele is still extremely strong. It’s problem in the current meta is that it’s natural partners aren’t too strong like Demo, Warriors. Havoc is probably your best bet or something like Survival/Ele/x but then you can drop Hex for 2x Capacitor talent to extend Traps on healers. But I get it just preference and playstyle. We can both play the spec different and still succeed.

Also from healers you like to play the most with R Druid sucks. H Paladin is middle of the pack and MW is looking for it’s identity again.

Btw Grounding Totem is also bugged. It tends to get destroyed by direct spells or even some dot ticks on enemy players. It was like that early season 2 but they fixed it. They didn’t fix it in season 3 though.

We also play a bit different content. You rather play RSS and I rather play 3s rarely even attending RSS. While it looks similar both bracket differ a lot due to different dampening etc. Some specs use different talents and even stat priorities for each content. I’m optimistic for Midnight and I like the changes. For years I felt the game is bloated and has too many modifiers. Addons also kinda plays for you making awarness less imortant. This will move focus from just improving your rotation and damage dealing to CC and other aspects of the game which I like a lot. The only thing I wish happens is reverse on CC duration nerfs from s2 DF but putting spells like Stormbolt and Shockwave, Fel Erruption and Chaos Nova on a choice node. No other class than Rogue and maybe Feral should have 2x stun available.

While the spec feels good don’t have much hope and joy. Because we know blizzard like to kill the fun.
