Annoying trends..?

For me it isn’t that much of an issue.
I will still RP with someone even if they get the grammar wrong or make a couple of spelling mistakes.

I myself am not immune to making errors. Sometimes I write so fast that I mistype a word. Sometimes I use the backspace key to clear half a line and use the same verb twice. Other times I just don’t know how to spell a word correctly. So I try to look it up before I press enter.

There are a lot of reasons why someone would use the wrong grammar or wrong words. I personally just keep going. Eventually they will realize their mistake and not make it in the future.

What bothers me is that people constantly put excuses in their TRP profiles:
Dyslexia, English is not my native language, Slow typer.
It always gives me a chill. I wonder what happened to make them feel like they had to put that in there. Did they have an RP experience where the Grammar Police constantly corrected them?

To all those who have this in their profiles I want to say: You are not alone. Everyone makes mistakes, everyone starts off slow. Even I still get things wrong.

I was with three woulders recently. In the space of three paragraphs, “would” had been used eleven times. ELEVEN!

Well, if you love to correct every little mistake somebody makes, I would see you as massive :poop: head.

You expect too much and becoming grammar police is not helping it. Ngl, it’s really annoying when somebody constantly corrects your grammar when it makes sometimes little difference in the sentence when point has been made clear without “a” or “an”.

Fixed that for you. No need to thank me.

People writing “tho” gets on my teets.

For me, it’s those people who thump their Grammar Bibles in the belief that every character ought to write and speak the Queen’s English, irregardless of the character’s background. No, that doesn’t mean only hillbilly Elwynn farmers can make mistakes. There doesn’t need to be a self evident excuse, there doesn’t need to be some ‘character flaw’ to mitigate their grammatical mistakes. It means that -anyone- can make mistakes.

There’s also the whole range of factors affecting how and why some people type things ‘wrong’. Individual literacy, English as a second or third language, a sticky key on the keyboard… it could be anything, so reserve your judgement.

I think one of the reasons I feel so strongly about it is because at one point I was the demagogue correcting everyone’s grammar at every opportunity - in my experience, the sooner you lose that mindset, the better.

it’s just regardless dude pls don’t do this 2 me

I am 34 years old and I live in the U.K., always have. I’m not being nasty or anything I just want to know WHY people seem to use “an” instead of “a” so often.

Good for you. I don’t see how age is relevant to this topic, but perhaps you islanders didn’t realize there is an entire landmass to the east of your island of which the vast majority do not have english as their first language. Imagine not having english as your first language. Strange, right? There is your reason as to the hows whys. I don’t really see why you made this topic, but I am glad to have helped you educate you on the matter that there are, in fact, people that don’t have english as their first language.

I bet nobody here makes any grammar mistakes and we’re all perfect.

We voted to never have to realise or remember about that place
