Shaman, warlock and mage has this talent.
Where do you as level 90, doing m+, raids or pvp, put your talent point?
(I have mine on select yourself on all 3, while being almost level 90.)
I tend to pick “Cast at your target” option every time in PvE.
Just wish all spells would receive that option, like how it’s awkward to have to aim the Cataclysm under the enemies. Meanwhile Rain of Fire has the option for it.

Aiming spells means I often miss or don’t cast because I have to move and I move with my mouse, so I use target on the mob when the option is available.

As a hunter I’m not allowed to use a @target macro for volley, yet obr works exactly like that and casts volley at your target, makes sense? No.
Sadly I can’t have the obr button on my bars because it destroys dps even if not used.

i never used obr but wouldn’t it be possible to cast everything except volley, everything that you know are included in the one button rotation, and then use obr to cast volley at the target since it’s the only thing left to cast?
what do you mean? does it give +25% global cooldown by just being on the hotbar?

That certainly seems to be the case, that’s what I see and what all my googling tells me.
Not a big deal having to target it.. just a bit clunky as I use the mouse to move

You don’t need this talent.
/cast [@target] Spell Name
/cast [@self] Spell Name
You can also /cast [@cursor] Spell Name - then you don’t have to press a second time.
These talents are a convenience feature so you don’t have to make that macro. My recommendation is don’t take those talents, you just lose flexibility.

I want to be able to use my Focus as target but it doesn’t work. It works for self-casting but not for Focus, and it’s a bother. I don’t know why, can’t understand a gameplay reason for it.
If I had that I could use feather or the aoe instant heal spell on the Focus… obviously I could. And yeah, that’s what I wanted and expected.
Also this, since we’re on this kind of topic:
I want Focus to take priority over hovering as is with self-casting.
I have killed a tank at least once when accidently hovering a party member, trying to Focus cast.
It makes no sense that the self-cast rules are different and stronger than Focus is!
I mean, logically I will of course press the button which leads to the Focus when I intend to cast at the Focus. Using the button makes it unambiguous, I would never use the Focus button if I wanted to cast on something else!

i don’t know… i don’t use macros. i don’t like special cases, i want solutions for every case of play.
macros can of course do that but i have to tinker with them and then something breaks, maybe.. something changes perhaps.. dunno, it doesn’t feel solid to me. focus though, that’s a core function to me. umm, not saying macros are not but..
cause like i cast a spell at my focus by holding my focus key is the same as setting a macro for that. that saves space.
anyway, i understand you can’t help me. i won’t use macros or addons, only functions.
so i just want to express my opinion on this, how it doesn’t make sense that the self-cast has priority over hovering while focus does not. shouldn’t be like that. but yea, ofc… nothing will ever change, i know that. just saying.
These suggestions have worked the same since 2007.
Well, I think @cursor was added in 2014, and @ instead of target= was added in 2008 or 9, but… eh. No removals.
I literally have a macro for water elemental that I used in 2006 and yesterday, unchanged. 
It manages its aggro, summons or freezes depending on whether it’s summoned and alive, etc.
You can use them quite safely. Just type /m and type away.

but.. well, it’s inconvenient for me.
i don’t know why that priority doesn’t exist, and i don’t know why i am unable to use the focus key to cast on my focus for instant aoe. might be that way with damage too, i never tried.
if i could write a letter to wow devs, i would. but of course i can’t.
wish there at least was an explanation. the notion that it’s an oversight hangs over me but at the same time i think that it is deliberate and that there is an explanation.
at target wish more classes had this too like dk with dnd. its less annoying then having to place it on the ground

yea, can.
but my logic of my keys break from it.
kind of breaks. i have to do a key as the instant aoe instead of stacking the key as aoe and then instant aoe… no wait! i actually thought about this the wrong way! (never happened before, trust)
so like, i can just set the key as targeting the focus, exactly the same as it would be if it was the function doing it. all it requires is space on the hotbar, not on the keyboard.

edit: i did set it up, but alas it may not be fixed. i may not cast those two instant aoe spells at my focus.. and i believe it to be true for other spells like that.
Yeah the keyboard modifier doesn’t work for ground targeted abilities.
But again, you can do /cast [mod:alt,@focus] Blizzard; [@target] Blizzard
So…

@target isn’t a thing anymore, you can only use @cursor or @player for ground based damaging abilities

I still use self target macros for stuff like this
