Why is this a thing? if they moonfire somebody in my party and i’m within 10 yards, it auto hits me and all my pets…

It’s not a bug, it’s a feature!
Sounds like you should be further away from team mates in stealth 
On lock I need to position my pets so it doesn’t get double rake stunned by a feral, or db/ringed by a mage.
