Best shaman spec

Hi there!

Now i’m leveling a shaman with a friend who’s tanking so i always take healing in dungeons. Because i like healing i’d be maining resto but for gearing up in the beginning and open world content i should pick a dps spec.
So my question is which dps spec would you recommend as i like both dps specs.

Thanks in advance!

I’d pick Elemental, because you can share INT gear and weapons with Resto. But I’m lazy, so I go for the easier option.

This is a misconception. One of the draws of Resto Shaman is that it has great single-target burst, especially with echo of the elements at level 30. You’ll practically be one hitting mobs with a simple combo up until BFA.

There’s a reason why “Battle Shaman” is considered a psuedo extra spec as far as Resto Shaman is concerned.

Honestly, if you’re going to main Resto, just level as it. I’ve levelled so many Shaman over the years and never had any reason whatsoever to do it as DPS spec. It also saves you from the risk of managing gear pieces per spec and prevents you swapping from two different styles if, say, you want to heal through dungeons. 90% of your levelling will be spamming dungeons anyway, and Healer = relatively short queues.

Levelled so many Shaman over the years and haven’t had a single reason to ever do it as a DPS spec.

Yeah i might have been misleading as i wanted to know which spec should i use on max level.
For leveling it will be only healing, sometimes will do some quests and artifact quests but that’s all.
My main question was that what spec should i pick to make visions, assaults, world quests easier and which spec is less dependent on bis items and all, because i will just rather pick items for the dps offspec to increase ilvl and get into mythics in the beginning with lower ilvl.
Btw what you are saying i totally agree with it!

I play es ele for offspec. Visions i do as resto though. Just pick whatever you like the best, you can do world content in all 3 specs.

You’ll have an infinitely harder time trying to sneak into keys as an undergeared DPS than you will as a Healer. Resto Shaman is probably the one with the least requirements as it only really cares about INT & Crit, unless you really want to min-max into the perfect Battle Shaman, which not many do anyway.

Visions scale down for Healers as well, and world quests are a breeze as Resto. I do everything as Resto - there is absolutely no reason for me to consider swapping to tackle content unless I just fancy playing as DPS. You’ll be blasting mobs and having a very relaxing time just sticking with Resto instead, especially if you ever get your hands on Igneous Potential traits. It’s bad enough trying to up-gear one spec compared to managing multiple specs, so I’d just stick with Resto (if that’s what you want to play end-game as) and build it up exclusively without even thinking of other specs.

There is literally no reason to consider juggling specs unless you just want to.

Good to hear that!
Btw i easily managed to gear 2 specs simultaneously at the beginning with my other characters before so if i find it hard to dps with resto i’ll just play elem as offspec.
Thanks for the answers!

Enhancment is loads of fun, but pretty weak atm

I’ve heard its had a major rework in SL

I’ve heard enhancement is pretty much a dead spec so stay clear of that till SL, other than that a healer is always welcome in groups

This is the answer

I’d go enhancement, it really is the fastest if all you care about is leveling asap. But like others have said, it will of course suffer from gear synergy problems if you use some other spec for some other content.
