I think that they started with the Anima (and creating Blood golems) in MoP.
But it is really strange to see them practicing it, especially in place such as Nazmir next to all the Blood trolls and G’hun, when they even don’t know the origins of the blood etc…
“My blood cries out for the vengeance of my people’s blood, which can only be repaid with at least twice as much blood! Or maybe three times as much blood! Like if you went to hell, and it was full of blood, and that blood was on fire, and it was raining blood, then maybe that would be enough blood! Eh… but probably not.”
I guess if they defeated the blood trolls it would make sense for them to use the resources they find the best way possible, and that would mean building thd golems with the blood left behind.
Are the San’layn anyway related to this? I hope so, but not necessarily. Blood elves were always pragmatic people and they will use every advantage possible to succeed. I can’t wait to find out how they got there and what is next.
I don’t see how that’s different from void elves bathing in the void, creating void raptors.
That’s just how blizzard likes to write these kind of races. They have the word “blood” or “void” in their names after all. I mean, who names their order of paladins “blood knights”? And the first thing they did after Arthas destroyed their homeland was paint all their building’s roofs red. Because blood.
Maybe Blizzard is going to rewrite “high elf” again by making bloody elves out of blood elves. Would be fun to have living San’layn but unfortunately unlikely~
if they would fill sunwell with blood getting red eyes instead of getting golden eyes~
Nothing new, Blood Elves are using those blood golems since they’ve acquired the anima after the defeat of Lei Shen.

The earliest known use of anima dates back from the ordering of Azeroth, when the titans, the shapers of Azeroth, had used such magic in their acts of creation.
https://wow.gamepedia.com/G%27huun
G’huun was accidentally created by the titans when they experimented with means to solve the problem posed by the Old Gods.
Both are creation of titans and they are most likely the same substance as well. Which makes sense, otherwise Blood Mages in Nazmir wouldn’t be able to control it with their magic and blood golems powered that way wouldn’t be able to operate.
