Everything is fine, when I log in with another toon.

Hey Pibealistrea,
You should be able to see the channels that your character is if you right-click the General tab, in your chat → click Settings and in the window that will open select Channels.
If you are not connected on any channels usually clicking on the Chat Defaults button, on the bottom left, will resolve this. Make sure that you are in a capital city as well while you do that!
