That purely depends on your computer tbh.

And it depends if it’s an open area or a small crowded area.

Personally yes i’d love to have sharding away or maybe something to turn it on/off for people who wish to be with as many people as possible along with whatever problems that brings, either be it lag, mob stealing, slow questing w/e.

Back in vanilla the lag was ATROCIOUS, but back then no one really cared and powered on through it. Caps for very big emphasis. You linking a private server out of all things doesn’t mean too much.

Nowadays there’s too many particles/things going on per player which unfortunately means that lagginess starts to hit with less people.

They aren’t going to. Also there is a classic forum.

I joined a group during assault to kill one of the world bosses. a group of 30 people. The game was lagging like crazy. I don’t think without sharding, there’s going to be an improvement on things.

dude i dont talk About classic times, im talking about now!

this little private server can handle a big crowd with like no lag, they dont use sharding or any stupid system that blizzard came of with!

so im asking: why cant the blizzard server handle little group fights with 10vs10 without lag? why we need to have this sharding mess and still have a ton of lag? ddos attacks 24/7?! i dont get it :frowning:

I guess it depends if they are going to recreate the small servers again.

In case you weren’t aware Classic has it’s own discussion sub forum.

This doesn’t happen anymore because of BG’s. People will enjoy it for a short while but then go back to BG’s because it will provide a bigger amount of rewards.
The whole Tarren mill vs Southshore for example barely happened in Europe compared to America.
When WoW launched in Europe, BG’s were just a few months away.
Launch: 11th of February 2005
BG’s: 7th of June 2005
Also, a post from 2 years ago about this topic. Might have some information you find interesting:

BGs get boring pretty fast, open world pvp is much more fun in the long run. If there was option to disable sharding, we could see waaaay more people in Kul’tiras/Zandalar, rather than just watching people phase away even while just running in front of you. It’s sad. It’s not mmo experience.

people who say that world pvp doesnt happen in classic wow did never play it lol

i was playing on northdale pserver yesterday! its the same server u see in the video and the server is up for 1-2 years now im not sure. we had a giant raid on the orc/troll starterzone with like 200people! this was soo awesome!

if people see hundreds of players running on the street and screaming we attack orgimmar, down with the Horde! they gonna join no matter what the reward is!

because: the biggest reward in classic was and always will be FUN!

edit: i showed this Video and alot of personal screenshots to my guildmembers who never playd vanilla,… they couldnt believe it that this was in wow. they all asking now why they doesnt have this in retail anymore.

the whole scum gang guild will roll on classic now, everyone cant wait for it, even the people who never playd vanilla:)

they are all so happy now that they have the chance to play it and im already teaching em the rules not to make the noob mistakes and not ragequit

Without the cross-server features, a 100vs100 battleground would only rarely, if ever, open on many of today’s realms. Just like before cross-server functionality, AV would only be an occasional event on plenty of realms (especially for the dominant faction) and it was difficult, and sometimes impossible, to find people for leveling dungeons and other older content.

As much as I agree that cross-server features have been a mixed bag for community building, I do believe they have benefited the game overall, from a gameplay/accessibility perspective. I actually feel that Blizzard did well with this on a technical level; it’s not a small feat.

we dont talk About battlegrounds,

we talk about open world pvp, all around the world of Warcraft!

Well, this worked in vanilla when faction balance was enforced on servers. This was only the case for a few months, though, before the restrictions were removed (if a server’s faction balance began to topple, players could no longer create characters for the dominant faction unless they already had characters of that faction on the same server).

Players complained about these restrictions and they were removed. After that, realms with an even faction split have become very rare. Open PvP without faction balance isn’t all that hot for the minority faction. That is what led to Warmode. It’s not flawless, but it’s a step up from having PvP servers with 90/10 faction splits.

I did see it several times on my server, same with city raids. It only really stopped when everything got put in a queue. starting during wotlk and quickly becoming worse in cataclysm

Sure maybe not on pve servers. but even my low pop pvp servers saw quite some of them
