Classic 78 degrees Retial 54 degrees (GPU)

Hey!

Any1 else notice that while playing classic ur GPU gets kinda “hot”?
I logged into Retial to day to check my M+ chest and notice the temp was only at 54 degree celsius. I waited a bit and the temp went down to 45… I fired up Classic and it dident take long b4 the temp jump up to 78 where it sits as long as i have classic running.

I know its no where near any dangours temps, Im just curious as to why Classic make my gpu warmer then retial. =)

Classic runs hotter because it’s s*xier

Sounds about right, nothing to worry about. It’s probs just the fact the files are far less optimised. So it will put more strain on the GPU to pump out those FPS. less optimised = GPU having to work harder = more heat. And like you said 78 is fine.

I actually like that this happens. I had specifically asked Blizzard to not be hesitant to including advanced graphics options in Classic for owners of powerful GPU’s such as me.

My GTX 1080 goes up to 73 C sometimes. This is perfectly fine though.

I play at 3440X1440 resolution upscaled to 4013X1654 through NVIDIA’s DSR and Graphics Setting 10 (everything maxed out) at 60 FPS capped.

I’d still like Blizzard to have included even more advanced graphics in Classic as an option.

Note: Ofc I don’t play Retail, so I have no idea how my system would perform in Retail.

Ye i play both versiones maxxed out… I got a 2080 card.

Ye im not worried bout the temp it self =) I was just curoiuus as to why… but its an old game guess thats why basicly =)

Chances are the GPU is more bottlenecked on retail than it is on classic. Thanks to drastically reduced workload on the CPU, I imagine that gives alot more time to the GPU to perform its processing.

This is just a guess though, take it with a grain of salt.

I’ve the same kinda issue, but that’s when I’m in the login screen or in the character lobby screen. Thing is just that my CPU turns up to 90 degrees and starts to sound like a hurricane (normally about 60 degrees). Also only happens in Classic WoW. No idea why it’s happening. Logging into WoW and it goes down again.

Your CPU is overheating.

Remove your CPU cooler and re-apply TIM (paste).

If you don’t have a tube of TIM, Arctic Silver 5 is a quality basic paste that you can use.

the client is WOD so its optimized just fine.

i run 120 fps even in raids with full ultra and my gpu doesnt run any hotter than in other games.

How is it less optimized when Classic runs on 120fps on 200% upscale? lol…

Aight, thanks man. I’ll take a look into that!

You probably have a framerate limit set on Retail, but not on Classic.
Take a look in Settings > Advanced.

So you think it’s more optimised than the BfA files? And they’ve magically got less optimised over time? Even though BFA had the dx12, 128bit update, and texture over haul not long ago…

Just because you get more FPS on a game, doesn’t mean your GPU isn’t working harder/less to hit those FPS. Which like I said comes down to older software. Which fair play it’s not the original classic files, but still a 6 year old engine. Which in that time your nvidia/amd cards have had multiple udates to reduce the GPU load. Which they won’t be using now.
