I normally start off with mage, but just wondering how they are for random bgs atm. If they’re not very good, which casters are good, if any? Also, which spec should I go with?
At the end of the day, you should aim to play the class that you enjoy the most, the more you play matches the more you get to learn the rotations, usage of cds, and check for guides regarding stat priority.

Ok thanks. I was aware of Icy Veins, altho I have heard some criticism of it in the past when it comes to rotation at least, I must say; maybe concerning stat prio too on occasion at least.
I was also aware that people post educational WoW videos on Youtube.
Mage is a very situational class, specially arcane
they don’t excell in anything particulary but in the right situation they can be pretty strong
all 3 specs are somehow playable at the moment with
fire being the best dmg deal specially in aoe
Arcane being a very good support, peeling, kiting and selfhealing machine
and frost being a good way between fire and arcane
If your sole purpose is dealing alot of dmg
Hunter MM
Havoc DH
assassination Rogue
Balance Druid
do more dmg, but they might lack some of the utility brought by mage in some situations
when it comes to controlling objectives i find mages to be at the top of the list, give that you pick the right objective to focus on
