Dear Blizzard - PLEASE DO NOT CHANGE CURRENT FROST

  • Frost

    • Developers’ notes: We’re making some cosmetic and clarity-related changes to Glacial Spike so that players can easily find Frostbolt in their spellbooks. We’re also adjusting the 4th rank for Hand of Frost to help make Ray of Frost feel like more of a moment and help ease the decision point on its best use-case while we also look to distribute the power of the 2nd charge elsewhere. We’ll be monitoring the throughput impact of these changes and make adjustments as necessary.

    • Icicles has been updated – No longer generates rapidly out of combat.

    • Glacial Spike now has a duration of 60 seconds (was unlimited).

    • Apex Talent: Hand of Frost (Rank 4) – No longer grants an additional charge of Ray of Frost. Now causes Ray of Frost to generate 8 Hands of Frost over its duration (was 4). Ray of Frost damage increased by 30% (was 25%).

Please, for the love of God, DO NOT MAKE THESE CHANGES.

Even though I was initially sceptic about Frost Mage in Midnight, the current playstyle is way better than I expected.

Removing the 2nd charge or RoF will severely affect the current playstyle. There are currently a dozen+ things that can cancel your RoF in dungeons alone. Can’t imagine how many more are coming in raids. Having 2 charges at least allows you to still have decent damage throughput in case your first cast gets cancelled.

Having a single charge will make the spec feel blunt. Your entire offensive cooldown period lasts for about 5-7 seconds (2-3 sec cast and a few ice lances) and it just feels unrewarding. Let us have 2 charges for the love of God.

How about they add Glacial Spike to the spellbook and just make it cast Frostbolt, if Glacial isn’t ready and cast Glacial Spike, if it is? The tooltip could show the damage and effects for Glacial, but mention this automation.

This way, if you prefer the “automatic spike” that exists now, you will only put Glacial Spike on your toolbars. If you want control over when you use Spike, you can do that easily by making the baseline Frostbolt your bread & butter and have a separate keybind for Glacial.

When I leveled up my Devourer DH, it took me a long time to figure out that Void Metamorphosis becomes Collapsing Star under very rare and difficult to reach conditions (especially when you first get the option to pick up the talent), so I know these “dual nature” spells can be very confusing to new players.

As far as making the 4pt talent weaker, that might allow an alternate spec to exist that puts more emphasis on other spells and less on Ray of Frustration. I was actually thinking of trying a 3/4 build (if/when I buy Midnight and get a subscription). If the power shifts from Ray to something else like Glacial or Frozen Orb or possibly even the way Blizzard modifies Shatter, it could potentially compensate for not putting points into improving Ray.

I didn’t see any datamined spell notes on WoWHead for 12.0.5 and I think one thing to remember is that in addition to the changes on the PTR, there will be potentially multiple rounds of tuning changes on live soon, which could also change how the spec works.

I have stated my opinion on the new frost under other discussions and I still think the old “shatter when frozen” mechanic deserves more respect and at least a nod from developers. My guess would be that the freezing stacks mechanic will go away for 13.0, but not sooner. And it would be nice to have at least Ice Floes back as it was the one thing that I noticed was allowing me to keep up with tanks racing through timewalking dungeons when I did a couple about a year ago.

Blizzard are just giving us back the pre-prepatch anxiety of wondering if frost is gonna be any good or not. I can file a lawsuit for stress and anxiety inducing psychological trauma at this point. I’m left stressing out if my chosen class is gonna be any good in 3 months - AGAIN.

The proposed changes aren’t made with gameplay in mind at all. This “big moment" they want us to have, is the “big moment” of getting interrupted, getting knocked back, and getting stunned so you can enter into a “moment” of induced rage and frustration.

You can go ahead right now, remove your apex talents, or simply remove the last point of the apex talents, and see that playing with a singular ray of frost just isn’t viable.

Their reasoning is contradictory at best. If I have only one ray of frost, I’m more likely to save it and wonder when is the correct time to use it - the exact opposite of the goal they are trying to achieve here. With two charges you can be far more lenient and flexible with your choices.

In PvP this is already the most easily griefed spell as well - fighting against another frostmage I interrupted his ray 3 times before he could even get two tics worth of damage. It was pathetic. Having only 1? Might as well unspec Ray entirely and embrace being a sheep bot and nothing else.

I’m not even going to go into great detail here, the impact to comet storm, overcapping freezing etc. are obvious to anyone that plays the class(not blizzard ofc).

In order for these proposed changes to work, a few things need to happen.

Overall frost dmg needs to be increased significantly - namely frostbolt and frostfire bolts, as well as shatter and flurry to compensate.

Comet storm would also need to be its own separate button on a 30sec CD.

Ray needs to become a 30sec CD.

Anything less than these readjustments won’t be adequate.

That’s pretty much spot on. Hope somebody from the design team reads this.

Making my First Forum Post to Support this. Frost needs the second Charge on rof!

The only way removing the second charge is fair is if you double the damage of RoF, not a measly 5%

Or just give us back Icy Veins

Glacial Spike replacing Frostfire Bolt in the first is stupid epecially when I got Frostfire Empowerement and I cant use it because Glacial Spike stands in the way and I have to get it off… annoying in PvP.

    • Developers’ notes: After some internal testing and feedback from the community, we’re opting to revert our planned changes for Ray of Frost.

    • The 12.0.5 Hand of Frost changes have been reverted – Rank 4 of Hand of Frost will once again grant 2 charges of Ray of Frost.

GUYS, WE WON!

hurray !! im happy

Thank god - they realised they would have had to completely redesign frost without the 2nd RoF

While doing those changes, they should rename Frostfire Bolt and Frostbolt to Noodlebolt.

Its more accurate. In PvP the most.

Frostbolt isn’t really supposed to be a big damage contributor; it hasn’t been for a long time - it fuelled your glacial spike before, now it fuels shatter

That’s also why frostfire will be dead forever unless they radically change how shatter works because you have one hero talent that works with shatter, and one which doesn’t

Mark my words:

Freezing/Shatter will be removed in Last Titan; if not before then and they will go back to old frost
