What kind of joke is this spec? A rotation that falls apart if you miss one global, and you have to start from scratch. If you start casting prolapsing star and stop the cast, either because of a knockback or a requirement to move or die, you loose all 30 stacks.
If you were able to use Shift mid cast that might do something, so you could get out of the way of whatever was going to kill you without giving up everything you’ve spent the last 30-60 seconds building to.
Feels like 75% of the factors that decide whether or not you will do well on devourer is completely outside of your control. A tank positioning mobs poorly can edited by moderator. An random aoe you HAVE to move from can edited by moderator . A boss mechanic can, and will, edited by moderator, since once you activate meta you can’t time your window to cast collapsing star. If you wait you lose it.
So ye, this is the most tilting gameplay I’ve seen in ages. What kind of sadist made this spec???
Imo it has potential but seriously what were they thinking with how it is now??
I get that Blizzard is trying to make Devourer this ramp up caster dps but what’s up with the rotation?? They hype up this spec to sell midnight and all you get is 4 buttons it really is just a more boring shadow priest with zero utility
Unless I have misunderstood something, the most efficient way to play is to constantly run around and be collecting souls yourself rather than with reap, which has only specific moments when its best option. Reap does not generate souls. Its far better to keep casting something that does since you can cast while moving.
Im not going to play ADHD spec like this. I have other things to concentrate than run around like that. Its a liability. It will pull random mobs/groups nearby by accident. Same as with momentum.
I was really interested about the spec until I really got to play it. I can imagine blizz changing it at some point. Hopefully before next expansion.
So I will keep maining this rogue. DH has always been my main or “second main” ever since legion. It will stay there on the second place for now at least.
It’s not the most efficient way. Its the ONLY viable way.
The spec is interesting. It has potential. But in its current state its pretty useless. God forbid you need to spend a global on anything but dps while meta is up. Miss 1 global, and you won’t be getting off any collapsing stars. And if you start casting collapsing star, but have to abort, either beacuse you need to move, or because you get a knockback or whatever, you not only fail the cast, but you also lose all the stacks and have to start from scratch. Seriously, Im getting tilted just thinking about it.
I was so hyped up about the new spec and even more when I learned it’s gonna me rdps, because that’s the only thing DH was missing. But boy oh boy, what an epic dissaponintment it was when I got to actually play it for the first time.
4 buttons !? This is oficially the spec with the least buttons to press !
Total lack of CC and Utillity and just 4 spells - that’s it !?
And what you said above it absolutely true !
The whole Devourer spec feels like someone started to work on it and abandoned it around 30%. It’s just total and absolute dissapointment.
While I love the fantasy about the spec, I fully agree on an the flaws mentioned and I’m shocked that it made it to live like this.
Even the talents seems odd, why put colapsing stars as one of the first talents, when it was practical impossible to ever cast while leveling?
And what annoys me the most, when you finally cast it… It’s not even effective? Feels like I’m just poking with a visual that I don’t even really see. Doesn’t feel rewarding at all!
The lack of “early” aoe in the start of a dungeon is also super annoying. Feels silly running around casting consume ST over and over until you can do a void ray and then the pack is dead.
I don’t know.. I kinda had a feeling it would turn out like the old demo warlock, where you ramp up, go to the other form and use powerful abilities.
There is zero room for anything but rotation. If you miss even one global you might not get a prolapsing star at all before your fury runs out. You can always skip the talent that lets you meta at 35 stack, but then you’ll never have anything to kill when prolapse is up.
But after playing some more of this spec, and after the recent changes, it does feel a little better, even if it’s still tilting.
No utility was also mentioned, but that kind of makes sense, since you don’t have globals to use anything that doesn’t give stacks.
But what makes the spec feel truly bland and unimpactful is the lack of aoe. Spamming a single target ability on aoe packs feels awful.
And the fact that if you interrupt the prolapsing cast you lose all stacks is just unacceptable. There is no way this is not a bug.
I was excited about this spec, but it’s been a major disappointment. It’s not so much the way things are adjusted and balanced now. It’s more the mechanics of the spec. Spamming 3 spells and running around collecting orbs is tilting when it fails, and boring when it works.
This means that the spec is extremely vulnerable to any crowd control.
I have seen what happens when some of the twilight rares throw everyone stuns or disorients.
I think they need to change the Collapsing Star to a cooldown and to stop repeating the Legion Shadow priest mistakes.
Shadow priests seem to work so much better now in comparison
I dont really feel the lack of aoe tbh. I didnt even spec into prolapsing star, but rather went for a mix of right and left with fel scarred. Its a lot of fun feeding the damage buffs into huge aoe reaps.
They could change it to where you don’t lose all stacks if the cast gets interrupted.
And so that the fury drain stops if you get stunned. Or at least significantly slowed down.
And they could make shift castable while casting, like shimmer for mages, so you can actually reposition without stopping the cast.
And they should make the orbs come to you, or give us some way to suck them in more reliably. Running around like a headless chicken collecting orbs is just dumb. Movement should be reserved for tactical positioning and boss mechanics.
Collapsing Star being lost if the target dies or moves out of range is incredibly bad. Like straight out of 2004 design except even in 2004 you wouldn’t lose Mana for a spell that never casts.
Atrociously bad.
They need to make it so either Collapsing Star hits the target and AoEs around it even if it died, or you get it back if it fails for any reason.
I think they could have done a better job fixing Collapsing Star: use the shards at the end of the cast (just like any spelll), but when cancelling the spell, reduce fury by the amount it would have decayed if you had been casting consume. This would have solved the issue without adding a silly cooldown. The 12.0.1 fix feels like a band-aid.
The spec feels a bit different today, but not radically so. Either way (before today or today), it does feel more interesting than the Midnight frost mage, which just seems awfully clunky and totally lacks a “here we go” type of cooldown button. I feel like devourer has better control over the high dps phase than my mage and far better mobility, but the mage still have better control over any enemies that can be rooted. DH is much more tanky.
Meh even if it didn’t have a cooldown and you didn’t lose the shards, if the mob moves out of 25 yards your Meta will probably run out and you’ll lose it anyway.
It’s just…. a dumb concept. They could make Collapsing Star have a bigger range for one. No harm in it.
Playing a shaman or mage after a bit of devourer certainly makes me appreciate how annoying that limited range is. It’s a bit like the hunter dead zone, which was super important in PvP…until it was removed.
How about they let you cast collapsing star while moving? Maybe just slow you down a bit. It’s the same button as metamorphosis and you can (amazingly) move after you hit that key and it doesn’t cancel anything.
BTW, it took me way too long to figure out that CS is just another “spell swap” for metamorphosis. The talent doesn’t say so and I couldn’t drag the spell to my toolbars.
