Over the last few months, I’ve seen quite a few posts on the Soulseeker discord about people actively griefing others. Most recent example is a level 30 hunter, who is griefing people, mostly in Stormwind, either by inviting them to party and using a sapper charge, or by pulling Old Town Thugs to the auction area and feign deathing, making the mobs attack random players. There is no practical way to avoid this kind of griefing, except by moving your low level characters to a safe area, or by staying away from the areas where griefers like that hunter is active. These griefers must have been reported quite a few times by now, but I see them online and active quite often still. It ruins the gameplay for a lot of people, and it is clearly against the TOS for HC players.
Naming and shaming isn’t allowed, if you suspect them of griefing you’ll need to report them ingame.
You’re correct. I edited out their name. Anyway, the problem is that they have been doing this for a long time, and nothing happens to them, even though they’ve been reported by a lot of people
I do understand your point, but the given examples are very easily avoided by only grouping with those you trust or near content you’re going to do.
I’ve seen more egregorious griefing using exploits, most of them patched good riddance.
This is a game based on social co-operative play. How are you supposed to know who to trust? Players can actively grief other players without any consequences. It is clearly a breach of TOS, and they have been reported many times, and nothing happens. I agree that you should be careful with whom you group, but this game has so many features that requires you to work together with other people. My point is that Blizzard is not reacting to any reports towards these griefers. It forces the community to work together and create their own lists of people to avoid, but these lists does not reach out to the casual players. As we speak, the level 30 hunter is running around trying to get people killed
Its simple don’t support blizzard. There are better games then blizzard offering you. Rise your standard don’t agree for bad “games”
Yes it is:
Play Nice, Play Fair
Gameplay that involves Zone Disruption and malicious player killing outside of consensual PvP will not be tolerated on Hardcore realms.
By this, we mean deliberate action to hamper or significantly impede the ability of other players to enjoy the game, such as (but not limited to) repeatedly killing quest NPCs or kiting important quest mobs far away from their spawn location to prevent them from being killed.
Most importantly, this also includes taking actions to deliberately cause the death of another player, such as (but not limited to) kiting higher level or elite mobs onto or near other players with the intent that they take damage and die, or deliberately causing a wipe in a raid or dungeon group. This is not a PvP realm, and the normal PvP realm rules do not in any way apply to this realm. Outside of a normal Duel to the Death, consensual PvP flagging, or Wargames killing other players isn’t the core goal of Hardcore gameplay. If players are found to make it their goal to take part in this kind of disruptive style of play, we reserve the right to take immediate and decisive action against anyone found to be deliberately causing this disruption to other players on these realms, including permanent account closure.
On the flip side to this, “report bombing” or intentionally using the ruleset against players to attempt to get their account actioned will also be met with equally harsh penalties. Deaths can and will happen in normal gameplay, and retaliation or resorting to bullying, abuse, or malicious reporting for normal gameplay deaths are not appropriate. For example, if you are in a dungeon group and the tank ends up taking too much damage and dies despite the efforts of the healer in the group, it’s not appropriate for someone to report the healer. While that death is unfortunate, it is legitimate gameplay, and the best thing to do is remain understanding and empathetic, learn what lessons you can from the situation, and try, try again.
Ultimately, it’s critical to the health of these realms that players play nice and play fair with one another, and we will take any hostile or abusive actions that occur between players very seriously. Upon character creation, you will be prompted to agree to both the hazards of hardcore realms and that death is permanent and irrevocable, as well as the rules around behavior between players.
As with any new development, we’ll be keeping a close eye on player behavior during the test phase and adjust as needed. We want WoW Classic Hardcore to be a fun and challenging experience for anyone who wants to jump into the action.
From the Rules of Engagement
The hunter in question is still getting people killed. I think they were online for 10+ hours straight the other day, killing people in Westfall, Loch Moran, Elwynn and SW. crazy how blizzard don’t give a flying f.
Thank you for the advice but…that doesn’t fix the real problem here:
why is player still around, doing the same griefing tricks after being reported a couple of times ?
This, is the real issue that needs to be answered and fixed by anyone in charge here (not especially you), don’t you think ?
That is indeed the real issue here. We’ve had such players before, sometimes for months. One killed lowbies in SW with a Goblin Mortar - he went unharmed for months even though he was reported time and time again - until he accidentally killed himself. Another stayed in the Loch Modan tunnel killing off Hordies that accidentally were PvP flagged by being attacked by guards - not attacking (another blooper) - and he also was active for a long, long time.
Blizz is not living up to their own words as per the Rules of Engagement.
Exactly.
If we are talking about the same hunter then I can confirm he is still around griefing players.
Someone just reported on the /world chat a minute ago (on Hardcore Anniversary server) about a level 31 hunter pulling high level mobs in Loch Modan/Westfall and then feign death to get lower levels killed.
I whispered him and he didn’t reply.
And when trying to report him from afar (using “Who List” window) we are only able to report…a player name, which is obviously irrelevant.
Considering this, it’s not crazy to consider Blizzard isn’t protecting players from toxic behavior, nor that providing them proper tools to do so.
And if nothing can be done, if multiple reports lead to nothing but low level advices such “maybe avoid griefers ?” from a MVP, then I see no reason to not name the responsible on this very forum, as a last resort, whatever if we get a red flag from that or not.
That wouldn’t be shaming, nope, but taking action to protect the Hardcore community, since it seems we can’t count on anyone else than ourselves to do so.
Maybe it’s time for some common sense ?
Make a “Warning macro” and post it in General when you log in and evey 3-5 minutes thereafter, no matter what zone you’re in. More will probably take it up, and at least players can check and see if name Hunter level 31 is online and in Loch Modan.
Naming in-game is not against the ToS and it’s not spamming if you do it less than once every 2 minutes ![]()
Ok, why not, it’s a good idea after all.
But it’s also still players trying to protect their community and Blizzard not acting.
Because we can do this forever. Making clever macros. Countless reports in-game. Blacklist channels on Discord. And whatever else.
At the end of the day we still have a griefer doing whatever he wants, freely.
And probably more coming as well. Or just the same, but with new toons.
Not really a good look for this company.
He just took out another lowbie in Loch Modan, and he recently chased me across the zone with 4 ogres leashed. There’s no way to report the player without letting him grief you, it’s ridiculous.
Two more name changes for that character and a bunch more griefs, then they layer switched when a 60 arrived. Blizzard ever gonna stop them? EDIT: more level 19s killed by them, unstoppable really.
he’s massacring them out there, when are you going to intervene?
it’s soulseeker eu server
just chatting with 2 more victims, the griefer pulled the elite patrol into the quarry
Only way is to organize a “kill squad” - 60’s on all layers or something. Blizz won’t do a thing.
Sadly I’m not playing Anniversary, or I’d come help.
he’s killing more again today, mods doing absolutely nothing
Those elites in Loch Modan are bad enough without help!
As I said, the only way out is a warning kacro, and a kill squad.
What’s ironic is that we are not allowed to publish the character’s name as it’s “against the rules” and we will be penalised pretty promptly if we do, but the griefer goes on and on with their griefing with no penalty despite their behaviour being “against the rules”.
I wish I could be as selective regarding which rules I choose to go along with.
