I figure they kind of grow/heal by osmosis. Stick a water elemental in water to make them better.
In the DnD world at least they dont eat anything. They just “are”.

I saw a fan comic where a water elemental was fed icicles by a frost mage ;p

Alementals eat yeast. Not sure if that can be considered food. Also hops, and that counts seeing as it’s a veggie.
As a Frost Mage you used to be able to heal your water elemental by firing frostbolts at them… but they removed it. Now I just summon a new one if it’s health is failing.

I think they adsorb the spirit (anima in SL) in the environment.
They eat like… fire buns and water…bread… And the likes. Of their own elements. Surely

Probably unlikely they eat food as we know it, as, well, there wasn’t really anything/one -to- eat when they were top dog on Azeroth was there? The mortal races came later…I think.
Yeah, just checked the sources. No, Elementals do not eat food, they used to eat spirit stuff from the world soul before there were any Mortal races on the planet, before even the Old Gods came to Azeroth. They can drain each other, but they don’t chow down on burgers at Ragnaros’ bar and grill…
