Currently thinking about what class I want to play and I’m considering wl right now but I don’t want to play an overplayed class again.
What do you think?

Yesn there will be, not just because they are OP but also because they are fun to play in tbc!
The “meta” class will always be the most played really so TBC will indeed have an influx of locks and even druids.
The good news is that there isn’t REALLY a bad class in TBC so what ever you choose will be absolutely fine
I’ll be going for fun and suport so shaman has my name written aaaaaaall over it.
I already see a lot of warlocks being leveled up on my server…
You should check out one of Hamsterwheels videos on YouTube
He goes over each spec of every class to demonstrate the dps of each one in pre-raid dungeon blues.
The likes of a enh shammy hits around 660dps whereas a demonology lock was at over 1000dps
sorry but i don’t care about dps or pve xD
This guy is basically helping the meta sheeps to select their calss…
Yes - most players play several classes and will switch between Flavour Of The Month. I know people who played warr in classic and who will drop for the min max meta classes in TBC.
It’s not my way - I’ll be Rogue all TBC still even though min max meta says I am not viable
PVP says otherwise
Just as well i am on a PvE realm then
Back than in tbc i played warlock, it wasnt top played classs.
I think this time around warlock will be in top 3 with rogue and warrior equal.
Resto druid will be by far 40% of healera in tbc alone.
Bottom tier will be hunters and paladins.
In the
Midle
Mage , priest, shaman!
I guess you’d need to have a think about where your interests lie.
Pve raiding? Then yes there will be a DPS tier list. Maybe you want to tank? Maybe you want to try healing?
But that is only a very small part of the game.
Arena Pvp
Pvp bg support classes (fc, healer etc)
Pve farming
Solo leveling
Group leveling with friends/guildies.
Pick from the above which ever you’re likely to enjoy most and then choose to suit.
For example, I will be solo leveling slower than most others do (work irl commitments) with guild runs at end game and enjoy melee over casters and yet like to be able to heal myself. So I’m going Enh shammy
I can’t imagine there are that many people that are willing to sacrifice gameplay just to look better on the meters.
Warlock is by far the most boring class to raid with.
For pvp though, yes I think there will be a good number of warlocks. Even though sl/sl is pretty meh to play as well.
Alot of people get off when they are high on meters, more then they would playing what they like.
I think you underestimate the determination of fotm players
Inititally, there will be.
I already see a lot of locks being leveled on my server, so I guess they will be abundant at the start of the expansion.
And then, 1-2 months after release, a lot of these fotms will abandon it.
Why? Simple: They won’t “t0P deH m3tERs braH!”, they will just be bad mages with less mobility
What a lot of people forget, or never knew (because they never played the original TBC): Warlocks do not start out as beasts. They become beasts, once hit is no longer an issue, and crit starts piling up on gear, because of how insanely well Destruction scales with crit (and haste, come SWP).
But try that on day1, and every Elemental Shaman leaves you in the dust…as will warriors and rogues btw. Not to mention mages and Shadowpriests, the latter scaling worse than us, but starting out much more powerful.
A day 1 Destruction Warlock is essentially worthless, even if decked out in Classic BiS gear. It’s bad in raids, and worse in hc dungeons, where he combines all the dps of a netflix-tabbing arcane-mage with all the utility of a rogue and the mobility of a brick. Oh, did I mention that he also sucks at solo content, farming and PvP?
For the first 2-3 phases, Warlocks will be required to play either Affliction or *gasp* Demonology to be competitive. (Surprise surprise, Demo is a viable spec, and yes, it does outperform destro early in TBC ). Both these specs are nothing like what youtubers tell the fotm-fanclub. They are much more complicated (also a lot more fun!), it’s easy to mess up, and they make the warlock competitive, not the dominating monster hes to become later on.
By the time Warlocks take center stage, many fotm player will have moved on in disappointment. It’s not like the Warrior-Flood in classic, who, even though they started undergeared, benefited massively from worldbuffs and the fact that they are the only primary tank class. These bandaids do not exist for the TBC locks.
Lastly, even though he becomes a top dps class late T5, it’s not as if Warlocks are anywhere near as massively overpowered as Warriors & Rogues are in classic. You won’t be 15% ahead of Mages, it will be more like 4-5%, and depending on the fight, other classes will actually be ahead of the locks. Firemages are beasts in TBC, and anything but “useless and benched”. So are Rogues (did I mention they also have priority on the expansions only useful legendary?). Hunters are always among the top dps as well, and in several fights easily outperform the locks, macro or no macro.
So yeah, bottom line: the people expecting the kind of OPness they had in Classic with Warriors/Rogues returning to them in TBC just because they rerolled to Warlock, are in for a disappointment.
And lastly:
Warlock is not something you reroll to.
It’s something you were born to be
Yes there will be. Locks are S tier in arena AND raiding.
I don’t think they will be as popular as warriors and mages in vanilla though just because they are warlocks and have some annoying class mechanics. They’re also very boring in PvE, 1 button spam 24/7.
Yes they will. Locks will be top dps for the entire expansion. Or so I’ve heard.
I do over 1000dps on my mage at lvl 60 in a raid. Is he comparing solo DPS hitting a dummy? Because that gives you no info on how you perform in a raid since classes scale differently.
You have heard it. I have PLAYED it.
Yes, we will be an S tier dps class.
No, we will not be top dps for the entire expansion.
No, we won’t top the meters by pushing one button from start to finish.
And btw. we are not the only S-tier dps.
Locks are s tier pve for the enitre expansion and also s tier in pvp for the entire expansion.
I know you gonna play lock and must deter fotm players, but this is true and you know it
Did I say otherwise? No, I didn’t.
I am well aware that Locks are S-Tier throughout the content. I played a Lock back then, and am hyped to play one again.
However, I am also aware that we are not an S-Tier dps class if we try to play DS/Destro on day1 (or day 60 for that matter). This is exactly what the majority of fotmers are expecting, and they will fail doing so.
And miss the chance of tasting their disappointment when I crush them in the Parses while Laughing in Affliction or Demonology? No way I’m gonna miss out on that
