Festival of the Light

Light be with you all!

I am pleased to announce my intent to host a three day event involving competition, socialisation, merchantalism, ceremony, and above all else fun.

If you would kindly indulge me with a spot of preamble I shan’t take up too much time before getting to the real meat and potatoes of the post. Since I founded the Call of the Silver Hand six years ago it has always failed to achieve what I hoped it would, to be a frequently used platform from which to bring people from all across Argent Dawn together in events both combative and non-combative. Instead the CotSH has evolved into a very different beast but never the less I have always maintained this hope for fostering wider community and commeradary in the realm.

What is the Festival of the Light
The festival of the Light shall be a three day event extending from Friday the 20th of August to Sunday the 22nd of August in Tyr’s Hand. The festival shall feature:

  • A persistent market,
  • competitions in Archery (Friday) and Dueling (Sunday)
  • Sermons and Lectures regarding elements of Faith
  • A convening of the Call of the Silver Hand to allow for public petition of the Knights assembled. (Saturday)
  • A parade (Friday)
  • A mount race (Saturday)

How do I get involved?
This event is hosted in Tyr’s Hand and is not specific to the Knights of the Silver Hand so anyone may sign up from either faction. We’ll hope to have a good supply of Language Potions to support those who have neglected to collect their own.

To get involved you may choose to simply arrive on the days listed and take part in the social atmosphere or you may wish to sign up in advance. If you want to bring a market stall or you want to take part in a competition then please sign up in advance. We will take sign ups on the day to a limit based on our availible time.

To sign up in advance you can either leave a post on the forum thread below or send ingame mail to Morvuk.

If you wish to sign up for the Market please leave a post informing us of:

  • the wares you plan to bring,
  • which of the 3 days you plan to offer the service for,
  • How many players will be supporting your market stall.

If you wish to sign up for a competition please leave a post informing us of:

  • The competition being signed up for (Archery / Dueling)
  • Which character(s) is signing up.

We are in the process of finalising the rules for the competitions and these will be presented on the forum thread in the next few days. The present thinking is that these rules will be predicated upon a /roll method.

Please ask any questions you have in the space below, a complete timetable will be released in the next week.

The Luminous Order shall certainly be visiting.

The Church will attend.

Argent Crusade, stationed at Tyr’s Hand, will attend.

We should be around the area during that time and have a few followers of An’she who are likely to be interested in the gathering.

The Hand of Reckoning will be there!

Thank you everyone for signing up. I know that World of Warcraft has been hit in activity due to a myriad of recent reasons. We will make sure that the events occur as time tabled despite any low attendance or lack of activity. Worst case scenario this will become a three day set of Tyr’s Hand village hours which is hardly bad.

As for the actual announcement for today, we’ve decided on the specifics of the duel system. After much umming and aaahing and creation of some systems that became needlessly complex we have decided to instead go with these two rulesets.

Duels:
Duels will be run by a standard back and forth emote style using a roll off to determine success. Participants can take 5 hits before being knocked down and ending the bout. As this will be held by a knightly order foul play will not be allowed and magic will be completely restricted. Martial skill only!
Those that wish to represent being inexperienced are welcome to apply modifiers to their own roll to reduce the value. Those who wish to represent being experienced may (with the oponents agreement) apply modifiers up to +10

Archery
Archery will work slightly differently to the dueling and will operate in sets of three.
The judge for the archery will do a /roll to get a ‘target number’. Those involved in the archery competition will then have to do a /roll themselves.
The marksman who gets closest to the target number wins the round.
After three wins the marksman will progress from their set to the one above, steadilly eliminating people till we have a singular winner.

The closing ceremony shall feature the winner of the Archery and the Dueling being formally recognised with an honourific to commemerate their achievements in the festival.

If this is successful perhaps in a few years we might have a champion of champions bout?
