Few suggestions to Devourer gameplay and talent nodes placement

I had a few days of playing devourer, watched some videos on talents, rotations, tips&tricks etc. Did some experimenting myself.

The most obvious problem right now is Collapsing Star. At this stage (and while leveling) it’s pretty much useless talent with low number of casts and even lower damage. As I haven’t played beta, can’t say how it feels at max level with all talent points available.

Another problem is that outside of meta damage is very low as well.

And last one I’ve noticed is the placement of some talent nodes in spec tree. For example, in order to change how meta works, you must upgrade your CS first. I don’t know, this seems weird.

I guess BLIZZ want us to have this gameplay loop where we go into meta as soon as possible, stay there as long as possible and cast as many CS as possible, which would be fine if this actually worked (again, it may at max lvl).

But the current situation is that ramp up to meta is pretty slow, there’s pretty much no point in talenting into CS in any content, and you’re punished heavily if mistakes are made inside of meta.

Majority of builds right now are just focusing on staying inside of meta and ignoring CS completely (due to mastery bonus).

Now, I might not have suggestion for every issue, but here are few:

  • Make Void Ray to benefit from our MAX mastery ALL the time. This will improve damage outside of meta (also, won’t affect dmg in meta) and also fits thematically, as while casting VR we’re in kind of demon form.
  • Change numbers of our mastery so that we do a bit more dmg outside of meta and a bit of less damage inside of meta (this might be questionable as I don’t know how spec is played at max lvl with all talents available).
  • Move Emptiness/Soul Glutton choice node to row 3 instead of CS, move CS to bottom rows. This makes sense, because then we can choose early how we want meta to behave and all top talents seem affect the way we play anyway already.

Let me know what you think. At least for me this would make things a bit smoother.

I gonna be honest. My current build in prepatch is very weird for devourer.

I basically play the melee build, but i feed the 24% inceeased damage buffs into the enhanced reaps from void ray on the right side. It regularly deals upwards of 36k as an aoe without having to do the soul mechanic for collapsing star. XD

Exactly. I for example, don’t even choose CS in any of my builds. I think there should be alternatives to CS builds in endgame.
