I canât believe I almost forgot to mention.
A pandaren phoenix rider guild.
One day.
As things derailed, more ideas:
-
A guild focused around a gunship and its crew, touching on the life and action within. No constant crashing for plot, just a good crew serving the Horde!
-
A community of travellers/adventurers/etc. It exists only to let people plan finding each other or travelling together and whatnot. Zero commitment to stay with the people youâre around to maximise interacting with all sorts of people.
-
A township community. Guilds of the type are doomed to fail due to it being the only focus, but with people being able to be in a guild and a township community, thereâd surely be more activity. âBack home, we have this guy who Xâ or âYeah, I know where we can get horses for a good price.â Small things that make the world feel truly alive - and in occasional events, guilds can be dragged in at the same time to really bring roleplayers together.
-
More mythology within mythology. Think the headless horseman at Hallowâs End, but the best example is the story of Darth Plagueis the Wise in the Star Wars Prequels. Adding that extra layer of fiction within fiction makes everything feel much more authentic. Pandaren adjusting some asian, especially Chinese, mythology and perhaps history to some extent, too. Using the inspiration of the race to find other material for said race and its character. Though this isnât so much of a guild or community in itself, but it does rely on them to exist and thrive.
Sighs dreamily
Has been done and its immensely enjoyable in a vaccuum, the moment youre exposed to a wide array of lawful good guilds you get vandalized.
I love the last one. Iâve done it myself. My pandaren priest is an elderly philosopher and author. I remember I had a conversation with a void elf once near the fountain in Stormwind, and as the trivialities faded the topic of the void came up, and reality, and my pandaren told him the story/riddle of âChang Chou dreamed he was a butterflyâ albeit an augmented pandaren version (incidentally Chang Chou is one of the multitude of philosophers who are mushed into my priests character, and his namesake Zhuangzhi draws from that too), and it led to an interesting conversation about what he thought the story meant and my pandaren probing him further. It was pretty awesome, got a few passive listeners as well when I was spinning the yarn. Must have found it somewhat enjoyable as I got whispered afterwards that it was a really interesting and wholesome exchange.
Iâd plan to do a lot of this sort of thing if I can get the guild/community concept that Iâm furiously penning up and running, regarding the Pandaren Academy idea I mentioned earlier in this thread.
Some sort of âadventurerâ guild that just sort of travels all over Azeroth doing its own thing without being tied down by the faction conflict. Thereâs the potential for intrigue and politics when trying to gain access to areas deep in Alliance/Horde territory without being seen as favouring either of the two factions.
In my experience these days, itâs the opposite. The concept gets going, it attracts players, the roleplay begins, and then between four and twelve weeks later - those same people start coming up with cowardly excuses along the lines of âI need to walk my fishâ, âI need to study for the next episode of the Chaseâ or âI need to bleach my underpants so the cat doesnât get outâ. The long-lost art of honesty in the frame of âIâm just not that interested anymore, sorry!â means guilds die well before their prime because roleplayers are fickle, flaky and dishonest to the people that, in the same breath, those same roleplayers expect to devote themselves fully to providing them overarching story, intricate plot points, detailed events and daily content.
TL;DR if youâve joined a guild on any of your characters, grow up and consider how your actions affect your community. Itâs really not difficult to play WoW RP for two hours every four or five days, and if you really canât handle it, be honest with your GM and get gone. Donât be one of the multitude of roleplayers on the dole, leeching attention, time and energy off people who want nothing more than to provide you with great content.
One clearly does not exclude the other issue, and I would argue they can easily feed into each other as well.
GM lacks interest guildies go inactive
guild dies, whether or not the GM returns later on.
The same is true of the opposite equation. The roster becoming inactive kills the GMs drive to continue the guild, and the guild dies off in dormancy.
If youâll forgive me getting anecdotal, itâs also my impression that these are issues more prevalent on the Alliance than the Horde. Granted the Alliance is the more populated faction, but itâs all the same a curious difference to my knowledge.
Something Iâve seen now and then when someone posts a guild concept, is something along the lines of âI have an alt thatâŚâ.
That doesnât really help the guild.
Calendar Community
The name might not be that good, but what I mean is a good spirited community revolving around the events of the in-game calendar. Most probably by using alts. Iâd be fascinated to see a community that loves bringing to life the many events in the calendar in hubs, the ones that make sense for roleplay.
The goal wouldnât be to create public events that can be time-consuming to make, as people on AD generally provide plenty of them already, but to generate a bit of fun roleplay in hubs to remind characters that X holiday/event is going on again. For example during Hallowâs End forming a group to go on a Trick or Treat trip with in the cities. Or during Winter Veil spreading the jolly mood around. Or during the Darkmoon Faire trying to lure people into visiting the Darkmoon Isle IC. Small things to get lots of characters involved with the seasonal calendar IC.
I suspect this is somewhat connected. Alliance is more populated, so people get used to being able to jump ship to whatever else seems more interesting at the moment, because there will always be an alternative.
Iâm not much on horde, but the choice being fewer there is something I imagine could foster a bit more loyalty and desire to put in the effort to keep something afloat, perhaps.
A community or guild that dont have pointless arguments and drama.
This is not really a guild idea but regardless:
I only figured today there is a pet store in Boralus called âRuff Watersâ. There are a million dogs inside that you can all give a petting.
That is when the idea hit me of a pet owner / vendor with the addition of mounts and such.
Two I keep banging on about to my friendsâŚ
- Cenarion Circle Druid Moots involving all accepted races. (Have attended some in the past, years ago. I miss them! Bring these back!)
- Sinâdorei Magical Sparring Competitions. Now we always see Tournaments involving Blood Knights and such. Imagine competitive noble Houses nominating their chosen Apprentice, both Apprentice and their mentoring Magister/Magistrix attend. All flock to witness the magical talent each House has been training yearly to show off. One Tournament for the Apprentices, and another for their teachers. Two trophies up for grabs. I really need to make this happen, I just think itâs such a big project to do on my own.
Again:
Pandaren phoenix riders.
One day Iâll do it. When I have both the IC opportunity and the OOC ability.
Sure, itâll probably be the most niche guild in the history of AD. Iâll probably get one member, at most. Me included. And it will be extremely headcanon-heavy because phoenixes have almost no lore. But Iâll do it.
Iâm pretty sure, RP-wise, youâre the only one. Even in PvP I rarely see Horde DKs that arenât BElves.
Sounds like heresy to me but ok
As for me, I still always have that lingering desire from all the way back in 2005 to see a guild of actors performing stage plays. I keep hearing and seeing âFaireâ type guilds and yet Iâve never seen a performance played out IC - I must just have missed them!
I recently walked past a theatre group practising their play behind Cath in SW with a few onlookers too, looked pretty neat. These groups rarely last long, but I always hope.
