Haranir Spoiler Heavy-Origins

Soo quick question just finished Harandar questline. In the VERY first questline we learn that Haranir were still..You know Haranir, back when ordering of azeroth was happening.

Yet we also have this from the new artbook:

The Art of Midnight, pg. 125, “Contrary to what was believed, the haranir are not native of Harandar. Long ago, after the dark trolls settled the Well of Eternity and became the night elves, those who would eventually become the haranir split from them and journeyed deep below the ground. Guided by visions, they discovered a new and wondrous place to explore.”

Both can’t be true as..night elves, became night elves AFTER ordering of Azeroth…so..which one is true?

From what I gathered lately it feels like what happens and is said in game supersecedes what happens in a book.

But I would add that in the whole Shame of the Haranir questline, it shows Freya, the kobolds and those robot observers, whose name escape me now, so it seems that by their own history they came when the world was already ordered.

Feels like it was during the ordering—though definitely BEFORE appearance of dragonkind—As their ingame murals mention them seeing the first appearance of proto dragons and hesitating to hunt them. Proto dragons appeared shortly after/around the ordering, and if they seen dragons it means they were still above ground by then.

shame - you would think checking something as basic as this between game + other media should be straight forward for Blizz rather than to put out mixed messages.

Considering we are talking ancient history, mixed messages aren’t a bad idea, actually. Why would what happened tens of thousands of years ago have to be known to pretty much anyone? The problem is just that we don’t get contradicting in-world sources, we get one version from within the world, and one from without.

So yadda yadda, Blizzard doesn’t care, so you can feel stupid for asking earnest questions.

apparently most are considering the in game lore cannon as the book was written before the final draft of the game and haranir lore was slightly altered during alpha>beta>release

Outside of RP who cares what people consider canon? The fact that there are different explanations is a problem in itself.

And for RP… well, it doesn’t really matter what the canon explanation actually is, you’ll need to go with somethong compatible with the consensus of the people you want to play with that often is only loosely based on canon anyhow.
