HC Server Should Have Achievements Like the Addon

I’m all for no changes, but we’re playing a custom hardcore server, so why not.

It could be done like the soul of iron buff (you get buffs if you do X achievement) or just add the tab in general that Wotlk has.

Either way, it might be Classic, but it’s Classic custom hardcore realm, not fresh #nochanges.

HC are tested on Era PTR, so most likely it will be an Era release. Thus any achievements added won’t be available once your character dies and is transfered off to Classic Era where #nochanges are real to a point it is possible in a re-release. So what is the point of adding them? Unless of course there will be transfer to Wrath realms.

Who cares about what happens when your character dies (on hc) and gets transferred to another realm?

If people want achievements added in buffs (such as soul of iron, survivor of rag) which exist btw, then give it to them.

We’re talking about a hardcore custom realm, not Classic Era realms. The functionality already exists on Era, too.

To brag as long as alive on HC realm o course. Once you die, it not matters any more.

Personally I’m not kind of fan of Achievements, I must say that back the day Blizzard released Achievements in the WotLK pre-patch my friends and myself were really hyped. But nowadays, Achievements had derivated into an specific social filtering tool and one of the RMT reasons in the background. The Curve example is one of those.

So, what would Blizzard should do with achievements in Classic?

I personally think that Blizzard can develop the Achievements interface into the Classic game client, but with the following considerations:

  1. There should be additional servers where achievements are enabled, so there’s an option of playing the game without the achievements.
  2. Achievements must enforce social engagement, no social filtering.
So mechanics as the curve achievements should be avoided.
  3. Achievements should only reward cosmestic things: titles, tabards, pets, mounts.
Nothing that affects the gameplay or the social engagement.
  4. Achievements must be obtainable by any player no matter the time they invest in the game.
  5. There should be achievements for the whole game experience, from the low level twinks PvP, the levelling journey and all its content up to the end-game content.
  6. Maybe could be guild/community achievements.
  7. Avoid at all cost “first (in|of|on|at) <value>” achivements.
Are toxic for the Classic experience and only powers the “self ego”.

Under that terms and conditions, I would say it could be a win-win trade-off, because:

  • Any kind of player would be able to decide if pursue or not achievements.
  • Achievements can’t be easily be use as social filtering tool.
  • Toxicity can be avoided.

And what’s more for Blizzard, I could bring back some lost subscriptions.

And specifically aboud HC achievements?

I do not think HC achievements are “imposible” to complete, as some others had stated. But some are kind of pain in the (you know where) … that requires a lot of preparation, knowledge and game expertise.

I would copy & paste them … and maybe add some new ones.

Then it is not Achievements but stars for participate.
