Everyone is complaining about Hero specs, calling them Covenants 2.0, but I think everyone is making a big deal over nothing.
I mean, the dps spec for paladins is called “Retribution”, but that doesnt mean u have to roleplay as a guy that’s obsessed with vengence and justice, nor does the healing spec, “Holy”, forces u to roleplay as a holy, saint-like guy. The story, the quest and the NPCs dont care about ur spec, these are just some cool names for the talent trees, nothing more.
Correct me if I am wrong, but I am pretty sure that Hero specs are going to be the same. In an interview the youtuber Nobbel asked the devs if there are going to be quests and interactions associated with ur Hero spec and the devs said no, that it’s just a gameplay thing, nothing more.
Using the “Dark Ranger” or “Lightsmith” talent tree doesnt mean u have to roleplay as those thing, these are just some cool, lore inspired names, stop crying for stupid things…

It is and it isn’t the general premise of how it works, im sure will be different. The only thing however from what I understanding seperating them from each other is the lack of a rep grind. I’ll wait till its on PTR /beta before I get an official stance on how I feel about it.
If i remember well, blizz said its gonna stay evergreen, so it wont go away like covenant soulbinds.
They prob gonna expand it during the xpacs.
Still waiting on shaman hero talents…
Why is it always Argent Dawn players who achieved nothing in the game, telling others to stop crying?
He’s not wrong here. Hero specs are literally the 10 talents we’d get anyway

Well what happens if someone has always wanted to be a dark ranger hunter but the talents are not the meta.
They will have to choose the more powerful option or be at a disadvantage very simmilar to covenants this is my concern about these hero talents

the issue is that it is presented as a way to modify your class to your liking, in reality it will be only one best spec.
Isnt that the case with all talents?

That’s what I am saying, u dont need to pick the “Dark Ranger” spec to roleplay as a dark ranger.
It’s not like there is a dark ranger questline or cosmetics that u are missng if u dont pick that spec.
It’s just a bunch of talents called “Dark ranger”. The reason for the fancy names and the term “Hero Spec” is just marketing nothing more.
Just pick the one that fits ur playstyle and roleplay as whatever u want.

Should have just called it " evil ranger" or something since a talent named " dark ranger" causes such hysteria in some people…
After having a very quick look at the spec details released, I thought the same thing, not just about Hunters though.
Sadly the pressure to use the “in” spec has been in the game for a long, long time. Personally I say screw that and go with the gameplay you like and enjoy. Most of the player base doesn’t give a flying foxtrot if you’re in the best spec for your character or not.
If you do decent enough damage, you can tell the meta mob to go stick it where the sun doesn’t shine.
And if they moan about it, tell them the vengeful, wrathful Paladin said it’s OK not to be meta.

“Well what happens when when someone always wanted to be an unholy dk but the spec is not meta so he forced to play frost”
“Well what happens when someone always wanted to pick talent x but talent x is not meta so he forced to pick talent y”

No i still dont get it but congratulations on the effort.
I meen templar paladin sounds cool but from what im seeing herald of the sun is gonna be better for pvp so im gonna have to choose that
but what if paladin won’t be meta in s1 pvp of new expac
I play paladin always also my concern about healing talents is not trash talking them or saying it wont be a good thing i just think they need to be more careful with balancing them for dmg with the other options
but we already have talents, why add more talents, that will probably just add bloat without giving any choice
Nope - and additionally they’re so much worse to balance because they connect two previously unrelated specs, preventing them from being balanced separately. I much prefer pre-DF talents, where you get three choices for one talent every 10-15 levels instead of getting a whole couple of passives forces upon you with one one alternative instead of the previous two.
I mean it’s pretty logical for tree to be more powerful in one type of content but weaker in another, it’s how balancing works.

An evil we’ve learned to live with - as we started playing the game with it; not an ADDITIONAL limitation propped on the already existing ones.
One talent usually doesn’t change how the whole spec is played and there were always at least two alternatives, not just a single one as it’s the case with hero talents.
