We are past the meat of the patch, where mats have a lot of value.
Still, I think 5K an hour is a conservative estimate, and 10K an hour is reasonable.
You do need to get your Herb and Mining talents up to the point where you can tap a node without dismounting, and you want to get some skill points as well.
Of course, if you want to make REAL gold, you have three paths:
- Boosting
- AH playing with TSM
- Serious multi-source farming, like Studen Albatroz
but Herbing and Mining will provide a reliable income!
If you have patterns that aren’t available anymore then you can make some serious gold with transmogs with little cost.
Of course I am talking about retail, since you don’t mention where you want to make gold I am assuming that.

We are indeed talking about Retail.
10K at most? Maybe some lucky hours will get you 20K, but I think 10K is the most you will sustain on average. But what do I know? I haven’t even maxed all my Specialisations yet.
Prices have dropped pretty hard, now the raid is over for most people who wanted to do it, and 10.0.7 didn’t really bring anything to shore up mats.
On one hand, real gatherers get benefit because bots can’t Dragonride, so they are less productive. OTOH, the merged AH has driven prices generally down.
Nodes are spread all over, so there are no more focused routes, as there were in older expansions, and Dragonriding introduces new limitations on travelling between nodes.

You are probably better of spending money rather then farming and buying tokens. It depends on how valuable you feel your time is.
331k at the moment, that’s 33 hours farming and selling if you can keep up 10k/h. Less than a Euro an hour for a token.
Sell one at the height and you may get up to 375k.
