Dungeons before max level hardly require healing at all. Healing only gets challenging in M+, so it can feel very stressful when you hit 60 and start doing “real” dungeons.
If your tank is overly ambitious, just ask him to chill a bit. Let him know you’re still new at healing. A good PuG tank will observe the healer and automatically adjust pulls based on what they can handle, but some don’t pay attention and assume they have an experienced 270+ ilvl healer even in a M+2.
I remember my first (and only) time venturing into healing. I was on my Shaman alt and we went to Antorus (when it was current content). I remember trying to heal the Hounds of Sargeras and…yeah…utter chaos and stress. The mental scars run deep even years later!
Players who actively choose to main healers are masochists!
The best DH I know considers me the best healer elf.
PS: many are better than me but she still prefers me for that spot. Mostly.
Mistakes like that do happen, or a patrol joins in… they say sorry or mb, then we try again. What doesn’t fall at the first try, will collapse on the second in general.
And I have Angel to ensure they aren’t bashed in so easily, as well as my holy words and Apotheosis. Worst case, we can kite.
…like drawing aggro? It happens rarely, unless it’s a dangerous caster not properly LoS’d. Then they mostly CC it, or just kill with a stunlock as possible.
My experiences weren’t that bad at all so far, but again I play with people I know, as opportunities align.
I tried a few times but its just too stressy for me, rage inducing even. Seeing people standing in random stuff or not using their own toolkit just annoys me.
Thanks to the healers that put up with it though! <3
Develop a thick skin, and a low threshold for idiots
If its not the tank, and they pull the big bad - then let them realise they’re not a tank for a reason.
If they’re a tank and they pull more than you can heal - that’s a them problem. They should be aware of what damage they can mitigate, and how much they can take before it becomes a problem.
If a tank (or anyone else) rushes off out of range - that’s a them problem. If they don’t stay within range of the healer, they’re not getting heals. Not rocket science.
If you ask for a quick mana break, and they fail to listen - don’t rush to help them. Take your time, have a picnic, and wait until they start running back to their bodies.
If someone complains about your healing, ask if they’d like to heal instead. Or just leave.
If you happen to find a tank who also has a healer alt - you’ll know it They’ll be aware of your mana and your location, and be more mindful of what size packs you can heal through.
That’s called harrassment and should be reported and put on /ignore. People like that are the same type of people who then whinge when they’re stuck in a queue forever waiting for a tank - not realising it’s their fault there are no tanks.
If healing stresses you out, it means it’s the wrong role for you. I played healer for two years, trying various classes, and I always enjoyed healing people and when I couldn’t heal the whole group, I just took it out on myself. Of course, there is always someone who makes a mistake by dying on fire, but in that case it is not the healer’s fault.
After two years, I decided to try other roles, like dps and tank. The role of the tank is much more difficult, the most difficult of all. You have to handle the beating, you have to handle aggro and you must never lose a mob. For me, the tank role is quite stressful. The simplest role of all is dps. Do damage by drinking a mojito while sunbathing on the beach. This is definitely the role that is NOT for me. I prefer to play hard.
So if playing healer stresses you out, switch roles. Playing a specific role has to have fun and you have to feel that role within you.
Be fine with ppl dying because they are not doing mechanics. Don´t be toxic and stop healing people intentionally, but sometimes, you know, just YOLO put on some good music, and accept that yeah you could give 100 %, but you could also just give 70 % and have a good time.
Because its just a game and I don’t take stress especially in low-end content. Once you do higher end content you should play with people you know anyway. Talking +20 keys and mythic raiding, or high rated arena. Below that its whatever because its not that serious. I’ve been kicked out of a lvl 15 dungeon because I was doing DPS whenever there was nothing to heal, but its not like I made a forum thread about it or cared at all.
I guess I kinda posted about it now, but whatever, this happened like 2 years ago.
Those are not tanks. Merely glorified group pullers. Nothing more. Tanks do more than just pulling mobs and keeping aggro on them. They set the pace, watch the healing and overall dps of the group as well to determine that pace.
Instant invites,so even if someone leave, you can find new group within seconds.
Even tho i am against leaving in middle of the run, there were 2 or 3 times where i had to leave due to not wanting to stay in the dungeon for the rest of my day.
People in 260 ilvl,doing 3 k dps,not being careful,pulling everything,not using cc,BL,saving short CD’s for boss fights only…
I did at least 70 dungeons on this char past month.Thank God,15-15+ were timed in first try,so i didnt lose any nerves there, but most troubles i had were in 10-12,and when i say troubles,i mean troubles like you wouldn’t believe.
I am officialy done doing 15’s ever again.I wanted to get this mount at least once because last season on my lock,i got to 1930 i think,i needed 70 or 80 points for mount but i had to quit due to getting owned by vault for 2,5 months. When i quit,i had 3 bis items, and about 60m+ runs. (one bis item was traded by someone else)
I am chilling on my mage now, farming low m+ and learning class.
One thing i noticed in m+ is that people most of the time dont use brain at all.
Example : U cant cc smite that does 4 k dmg,and not have interrupt for heal that heals for more than half of hp (hallway to Hakkar) ESPECIALLY not on high m+ where literally every second counts.20 seconds killing same mob all over again because you didnt interrupt heal, can cost you timed run.
Those are consequences of not having people on your friendlist to play with.
Some people couldn’t care less about those, some cant bother with trying to gather solid amount of people to friend list, and then to pick few that plays as much as you do,and then to pick few that have same goals as you etc…Some people dont have time to invest into ingame ‘‘friendships’’ Its not like you add people and that’s it.You need to maintain ‘‘friendships’’ or people will simply remove you because of your inactivity.
Its much easier to open group finder, but also much riskier.
I really had luck on my way to 0-2500.Some days felt like there’s no hope for humanity, but most of the time it was smooth sailing. Its like that, there are good and there are bad days.
Some runs were good, not because of how fast we did stuff but because everyone knew exactly what to do in certain situations, and it was refreshing to see that…Runs like that is what this game was supposed to be all about.
To me it didnt matter if it was 5 or 16,as long as its done properly,it makes you feel good and puts a big smile on your face.
My point is,you make your fun in game.Sure there are some crappy runs indeed, but don’t let that demotivate you on your way to achieve whatever you want to achieve.Sometimes you will stumble upon literal ‘‘Karen’’ ,but most of the time its good.Remember, most people you play with, want to progress too,its not like they all try to sabotage runs intentionally. Some people are in learning process, and you telling them ‘‘you suck’’ wont do good at all.
Be polite to everyone, regardless of score, achievements or titles they have or do not have.
Everyone wants to be treated with kind and respect, and sometimes behaving as a normal human being will boost your chance of success.
Even tho i dont believe in online friendships with the people you never seen in your life, that doesnt mean im not making friendly conversations in game.
If you want to have fun in game, you will.If you want to be negative and rude, you will ruin only your day.
I’ve had experience with unhappy in life people, who tried to pass on their frustration, but believe me all they managed to do is to frustrate themselves even more because i didnt reply.
Good runs should boost your motivation to play, don’t let good runs boost your ego, because you didn’t complete dungeon alone. You will only ruin yourself trying to compare everyone to you.
It would be absurd to join low lvl m+ and expect people to have same knowledge as people who do 15-20.
Dont be a douche and ruin someone’s key by leaving for hilarious reasons, but also don’t waste your time on runs with people who simply do not care.
