Is Prot Good again?

L2P baddie.

Prot is a legit tank physical damage wise, with crazy DPS on 5mans. The only weak spot it has atm is some magical damage (as any tank). But I woudln’t say is the weakest on said department, you can reflect a great deal of spells plus you can manage with several different CDs and IP for that matter.

Fortified Zul is still a nightmare. Wouldn’t even try it without a moonkin in the group to earn some extra seconds.

Don’t complain about lack of self-healing if you refuse to spec into it because some flawed guide told you not to.

also, prot is currently the best tank in the game after 8.1

Was dicking around in low level M+ and Timewalking last reset after coming back to the game and oh boy is the difference noticeable between Prot and Vengeance.

Given mostly the same situations I can just shut down my brain and go hard on my DH while my Warrior seems to take one hell of a beating if I’m not paying attention and if the healer isn’t any good. Not to mention that Warrior has to use like twice as many buttons to do well compared to a DH.

I think this is the main reason why people think Warriors are bad - they ARE bad in bad groups or in the hands of bad players (which would be the majority of the playerbase). Far more so than the self-healing based tanks, with which you can get away with farm more bad play on your part or on the part of your group.

The AoE DPS is utterly insane tough. I can see why they would be getting more popular for high keys.

TL;DR: it’s a L2P issue.

Most likely the best tank atm. Stack enough haste until you can comfortably shield block enough abilities then stack any stat you like. Mastery is generally the best one to go for by a minor margin but any stat will work.

DPS you do as prot is also ahead of every tank too which certainly helps a lot. We don’t have much utility but Spell Reflect, Shockwave, Fear, Commanding Shout, Intercept/Safeguard are fairly useful. There’s a lot of bosses you can spell reflect for nice damage (lol ghuun) which is very nice.

Overall Protection Warriors take very little damage and deal quite a lot of damage but lack utility of DK. Absolutely nothing wrong with them right now.

The reason people think warriors are bad is because they have a very steep power slope, so when you get a low geared tank they generally take alot more damage than other tanks but after aquiring some gearing they become hard as rock even when doing nothing.

We’re good. They added passive defense to the class (we die slower if we just use our kit without any of our long defensive cooldowns). That’s the thing we needed the most and they’ve kept adding to it on a monthly basis. I feel good about 8.1. We’ll see how 8.1.5 goes. That is the thing that’s of real interest.

I definitely feel stronger as a Prot Warrior than my Vengeance DH… suppose that’s not the best comparison as VDH doesn’t have the best survivability

I saw a YouTube vid a while back, was even before the patch. Basically saying that, for prot, you just need to know what to do, and when. The other tank specs were basically nub proof tank specs, not his exact wording, but it came down to that.

Not saying it is like that, since I don’t play those specs. I did try my DK, even though it is stated they’re considered “better” (my healer 8/10 times sees a DK in dungeons), I didn’t get that fun feeling I have with my warrior.

I am still learning to play him again, but so far it goes much better than expected. So whether good or fun, for me both, but sidenote, I don’t do like 15-20+ keys, my aim is to do 10-12+ keys, and NM and a bit of heroic raiding, if it goes well, since I don’t have any heroic experience.
