Is SKB a good talent?

What people think about it? Would mage be better without skb and shifting power?How it was in bfa and before?Cause I think 1-2 min burst and than “chilling” untill next one was okay?No?Like 9.0 balance drud.

We’d need a whole redesign to put us in a good place.

As it stands the talent tree is too entrenched with the idea of increasing Combustion’s uptime and reducing its cooldown to make any other talent setup viable.

It used to be that you had your burst and then still dealt decent damage outside of it, but SL brought this toxic setup and it’s unfortunately stuck around like a bad smell.

SKB is fun, aside from the final cast being half the duration of building the other stacks.

Fire mage would be a deal more boring without the 2 as the cooldowns compared to melee faceroll are way too long.

Even with base 30% haste pyroblast hard cast time feels way too long without tempered flames and unless you have a pyroclasm handy feels like a insult dps wise.

I think this is the biggest problem with Fire. Lots of burst modifiers interacting with each other that make combust windows too strong so that the rest of your play has to feel like flinging noodles at the target to offset it. When having everything correct, during a combustion window you will have Rune Of Power for SP damage, keep the stacks of mastery from fire blast from Feel the Burn, the Pyroblast damage increase from Hot Streak!, Fiery Rush reducing fire blast cooldowns and then the crit & mastery from Combustion itself. This is what made fire mage very OP at the end of BFA with the mastery corruptions and repeated in SL with the fire blast increasing all damage by a percent when used during Combustion. SKB triggering all these modifiers as well just means it has no competition as well as the Pyroblast damage talent being on the same branch of the tree. Any buffs to the baseline damage of any fire spell will make these combos broken and make it even more mandatory.

I feel like for fire it would be healthy to unstack some of these and put some of the damage back into the default spells, while still making Combustion a feel good cooldown moment. Fiery Rush feels good and improves the playability as well as the crit being 100% for the combust window, but with the rest means that it’s combust or nothing.

Hyperthermia works like a mini-combust, but without the control & percent modifiers, means that it will always be a lot weaker as the only alternate option.

Not saying nerf SKB itself, because people genuinely enjoy the game style, but personally would like see something competitive against it. Not a fan of the hardcast pyroblast.

Perhaps something like a talent that changes Phoenix Flames during combustion into bigger phoenixes like Ashes of Alar and adds a stacking dot for each hit with an explosion at he end, like an improved Living Bomb. Would be reminiscent of the older combustion. And then put it out of reach of SKB so you couldn’t get both.
