Returning player here, my old realms are low populated now i want to switch but dont know to which.
Im thinking about twisting nether but i dont know, is it even worth to play on a high populated realm anymore? because almost everything is cross now no? havent played for years so any help is appreciated

However, in Retail we have the Warmode on/off system so it’s whoever opts in. More people have WM off than on.
You can join guilds cross faction and cross realm now. Which makes life a lot easier.
WHY do you want a high-pop realm? What is it you want that you don’t get on your existing realms? That’s an important question. Realms have changed so much that you need to understand what the current difference is.
Technically, the only real absolute restriction is the Auction House. Stackable items like herbs are shared region-wide, but non-stackables like armor are kept within a server, making large realms cheaper if you are buying, but giving you a larger market if you are selling. (But the Warband Bank allows you to buy from other servers anyhow, with a bit of extra effort.)
You can join a guild on any realm, but obviously the local realm will have the least friction. OTOH, pretty much any very cohesive guild will do most of its communication on Discord rather than in-game anyhow. Discord is the real communication system of WoW these days.
Ooh i didnt know these dam. I have like 20+ characters in one realm maybe i wont change after all, but lets say the realm becomes super low populated what will happen with the realm? it will be merged with others is that a thing? Thanks for the info btw <3
I don’t think they will do any more merging. They did a lot last time, when they made “Connected Realms”, and started to run into technical problems by the end.
Rather, they keep doing things to make realm less important, like adding the Warband and Warband Bank, and spreading out characters more in the zones. They seem to be aiming for a superserver experience, where you don’t even care which realm you are on, and while they may not achieve it, they keep moving in that direction.
I would definitely not make any moves until you play a bit, and get into Discord, and have a sense of how the servers are now. You can always move later if you still want to!
