I’m playing solo through the old expansions on my main, trying to get some stuff that I missed in the 10+ years I was away from the game, and I’m currently trying to do some quests in The Maw, and it seems like every other quest is broken due to phasing. It happened twice that I couldn’t see the quest boss until I moved away to a specific spot and range-aggroed the boss (for example the quest Rule 4: Make A List). And when I have to interact with objects (same rule 4 quest), I move away to a spot where I’m put in the right phase, then pop nitro boosts to hopefully have enough time to interact with the object before the phase changes. And now I’m on another quest (The Jailer’s Share), and only one of the objects that I have to interact with is in a spot where I’m moved to the right phase.
Also in some phases the mobs are lvl60, in some phases they are lvl80, and in other phases there aren’t any mobs at all. What’s going on there, and is there any way to fix this? It’s extremely annoying.
For those wondering, I’m lvl80 (cap without buying Midnight), currently doing the Covenant campaign, trying to unlock Twisting Corridors in Torghast, and picking up a few other quests along the way.
One would think that with wow’s budget they would do some QC. But there are so many bugs that I encountered that I’m not sure there is any playtesting going on at all.
The Maw was a lemon from ths start. It never got the time or attention it needed in development.
Phasing … I despair. I really think the devs have no idea what they are doing with phasing. It causes so many problems because of interactions they didn’t consider.
When you put The Maw and Phasing together, you are in real trouble, and you will get no help from Support on these kinds of issues. To be fair, there’s probably not much Support can do about the problems anyway - they’re in the basic design.
The only tip I can give is to NOT take quests off your current questline. A lot of phasing problems happen because you are in two different questlines that require different phases. When you are on a questline, follow that questline through single-mindedly. When you are on a questline, FINISH IT before you take any other quests. If you find yourself on two qusetlines at the same time, finish one completely before you continue with the other.
Don’t cross the questlines.
It’s still no guarantee, but it might avoid some problems.
There may be some rationality to the level 60/80 mobs. MAYBE the level 60 mobs are those you are expected to encounter while levelling in Shadowlands, and the level 80 ones are those that were part of Shadowlands max level content. See ifthat makes sense when you encounter them.
