Hi
I am playing from South Africa on a
Telkom Landline Line (20Mbps VDSL), using
Vox, as my ISP data provider.
My in game home and world pings are 171 and 170 ms, respectively. However when i cast a spell the Quartz castbar addon indicates that i have 280ms on some of my casts. To investigate this i sampled my cast times in game with the following methodology:
Start a cast (flamestrike) record the red part or “latency” reading from Quartz.
Over the sample of 120 casts my average delay wa 267.09 ms with a standard deviation of 35.41 ms. Anecdotally my casts with lower latency seemed like they started sooner e.g I would press the button (active on keystroke down) and a 180ms cast would appear to start faster than a 280ms one.
During all this I ran a WinMTR to the ip i believe was the WoW server i was connected to that i got from netstat: 37.244.46.230 which had the following results:

I had a similar result doing the same to 37.244.44.220 (the other ip wow was connected to from netstat.) A quick google search on Quartz latency being wrong lead me to a reddit thread of the same topic, which could also just mean that its all in my head and that Quartz is just wrong. (One data point was 147ms, so it’s not out of the realm of possibility.)
So my question is, is there any reason why it feels like i have more in game latency than is reported when I hover of the in-game Game Menu and Quartz seems to back up this feeling but all other evidence (like the winMTR session) seem to point in the opposite direction of me just having false perceptions of how delayed my spells are. I guess the next step would be to record my keystrokes, and video to see how many frames after key-press the cast starts?
This doesn’t affect me when standing still and chain casting fillers like fireball, the spellQueueWindow is effective at negating this effect however this delay is present after each instant cast like a hotstreak! or brain freeze / fingers of frost cast when i resume casting channeling spells, or starting a new cast after moving!
