I would not invite you into my group if you did not atleast have a 95 parse on hogger. It’s required to kill gruul. It’s my group and my rules!
OP, I would understand your outrage (somewhat) if the raid leader was basically saying “link me a log showing you did this before or I’m not inviting you”. Which is, btw, part of why I rly dislike WotLK achievements and what they did to the game.
But if all the leader is asking for is that you know what you’re doing, then you rly have no excuse. Watching videos, reading up tactics, should be something you always do before showing up for a raid, without expecting to learn everything on field. And yeah sure, some things you have to test by yourself (ex: what combination of threat/mitigation gear do I need to tank this fight?), but the basic stuff should be known already.
They have courses that teach you how to use a ladder too, it doesnt mean using a ladder is actually difficult. With Gruul or any other game content this attitude does pose a problem, because if you havent done something before, you will never get the chance to do it and learn the mechanics. The root of the problem is that people just want to get things done as fast and smooth as possible, and they wont bother with “noobs”, even when a few simple instructions would be enough to clear the content.
