With the release of the Curse of Ula’tek content update, players will be able to link their Battle.net and Discord accounts to chat and collaborate with their guild no matter where they are.
WOAH THERE! That’s actually a super good feature. Miles better than the Twitter integration back then.
But… I do wonder… Did you really just show Linxy’s Battle-Tag with Hash-number? That seems… Dangerous for personal privacy.
Why is this just not a community feature in-game? Why do we need Discord?

This is nice, but what I was actually hoping for with Discord integration is linking the Calendars.
My biggest pain point with Discord becoming an important part of my guild’s community is having two calendars to manage, if I want folks to be aware of planned stuff, with some preferring the Discord calendar, and others preferring the ingame one. Events transferring automatically would be huge.
Another secondary thing I would love to see is Emoticons working in WoW, at least in guild chat. With Discord chat going into WoW, it would just make sense to finally get.

Because most people use Discord over other communication tools.
Let me re-phrase that statement of yours…
“We have phones to call! Why should we need Instant Messengers?”
It’s just more effective this way to communicate for many.
If they can make Discord send messages into WoW and vice versa, they surely can integrate calendar notifications later as well down the line.

I do hope they include & give some love to the community feature as well. As someone who personally + have friends in other guilds, it would be neat to have these features for communities as well. A guild should be able to have a connected “Guild community” that let you interact with the guild without being in it. Having communities be account-wide instead of per character as an option would be neat as well.
Communities have a lot of potential! Put in a little effort to give it a proper chance, now’s the time!

Why ? When the attraction of Discord was that it was seperate from WOW that Blizzard couldn’t control but players for themselves; especially these days of imposed / Tyranical digital ID’s for many things and the loss of privacy
Am I right to understand , that this basically means a Guild leader can link the in-game Guild chat to discord chat and messages go between the two ?
Maybe even calendar /raid invites / events are synced with the in-game calendar system .
So basically you will be able to participate in guild discord , without having to actually register in discord yourself ? Only the guild leader will need to register .
If that is true this sounds great .
Eh. Might end up deleting Discord account entirely if they end up pushing age verification on me. Currently it just has a stay of execution. Not linking it to WoW or anything else until we see whatever nonsense they implement.

I wonder how reliable it’ll be, I remember the gchat in companion app. But this should perform way better I guess.

You mean the same Discord that leaks personal information every 10 minutes or pushes digital ID in a number of coutries despite the same countries never voted democratic consent for such for a start ?

If you think that’s not a challenge/issue on any platform/service you use, you’re delulu. It’s just because of how incredible popular discord is and the unfathomable amount of information are posted there every second. Put it into perspective a little bit instead of just spewing out what you see in headlines without looking deeper into it or any thoughts about it yourself. Hivemind take from your side, ngl.
If you are thinking about Age verification with ID, that’s not on discord. They have to comply to be available in those countries, and availability is key to have a communication platform, obviously. If I understand correctly, it’s something like Australia or NZ pushing this and other countries are bandwagoning. Non-adults being online is a bigger problem than people are aware of, even though most people are semi-aware, most cant grasp the scope.
